We have been watching , or attempting to watch, an occasional movie or youtube video very late at night (Midnight to 3 AM generally) and not only are we NOT getting DVD quality, the picture is so blurred its akin to a bad security system video.  This is only a relatively new 70" smart tv that otherwise as a superb picture.  Any suggestions? EDIT:  I've done speed tests and I get anywhere from 13 to 27.

Run the fast.com speed test - it will provide the video streaming rate you're experiencing - on Silver plans the general consensus is that it should be around 1.5 Mbps or more to provide "DVD quality" at typically at 480P - I doubt that's sufficient for a 70" display but could be wrong.

Hi Wayne.
The Unlimited Silver 25  is best used for smaller devices as listed below.  TV's are fine but a 70-inch screen will not produce high def quality.  The screen is too large.  Have you tried to watch it on a smaller screen?

Unlimited Silver 25
  • DVD quality
  • Best for medium devices such as computer monitors, laptop monitors and TV's
  • Optimized for 480p

This is been new in the last week. Prior to this we had an acceptable picture. This is our only tv and cuddling up to the computer screen just doesn't cut it!

I don't think it will ever be adequate on that TV with the silver plan.. I do stream DTV on the computer, on demand and it looks good on a 23 inch computer screen.  Sometimes the pic gets a little blurred for 30 seconds or so.. I am on the silver as well.

I don't think you will get a quality picture on that TV with silver,  unless you get DTV or dish.

Just ran 3 fast.com on my phone. Not the fastest device in the universe :p. Grandson watching you tube cartoon on the computer. Results 1.2, 1.1 mb and 810 kb. At 6 this evening, speed test.net gave me 13-14 mb on the pc.

Fast.com gives you a streaming speed, i normally get 3.1 to 3.5, this is a speed that should net you 480 with very occasional blury or a little buffering, at least that is my experience.

You can have 25- 30 mbps download speed but your Fast.com speed is the limiting factor, on a good night most likely 3+, less than 2.5 you can stream but results will vary, generally not worth the effort, especially on a big screen.

So you get 3-3.5 with the silver plan? I'll check later, but many fast.com speed a half hour ago was 1.2, 1.2 and below one at 810 kb with silver 25.

Wayne, if you aren’t using anywhere near your data allowance, just use a cheap VPN and stream in HD. Data won’t be an issue and you’ll enjoy the view a little more.

Basically, it's because "unlimited" plans are "crap",
