I plan on doing some rather extensive traveling around the US& Canada and my question is: Is there a way to travel with Exede that won't cost me through the nose. I am especially interested in using the Freedom Plan
I don't believe there is a way to "travel" with Exede since the modem has unique modem keys for individual beams, plus the fact that the Freedom Plan is only available in certain areas. Folks used to do it on the down low with WildBlue, but I don't think it can be done with Exede. Try a cell phone based plan, maybe.
I know that mobile internet is available as my brother is using such a system on his sailboat. I was just curious as to wether Excede offered anything similar as Hughsnet is not an option. Unless I find something I'll just travel from one wifi spot to another. Thanks for your response.
The thing that's tricky about this for internet is that it has to go both ways within much smaller spot beams, not just down like DIRECTV with its big 'CONUS' beams. That means the dish has to be much more precisely aligned. In the case of our in-flight service, it required an entirely new kind of antenna that could rotate and stay fixed on the satellite, and installation on the fuselage of the aircraft within a special protective cover called a radome. While creating something like this for use on things like RVs or even cars may be in the future, right now the cost for an individual application would be enormous.
