Exede is meant for people who don't have access to dsl cable or 4g LTE. If you have access to any of those, you're an idiot for using satellite. If you don't , then satellite is your only option or else having no internet. I for one am happy with exede and believe they will take it to the next level and maybe become competitive with the other types of internet with their new satellite launches.

Satellite is primarily an ISP of "last resort."  It's not an alternative to cable or fiber, but it's adequate for general internet needs.

The plans offered are based on what the system can handle.  Unlimited data is an impossibility with the system, and it's not cheap because, overall, satellite is by far the most difficult and expensive internet to run and offer.

To contribute to Gabe and J S comments Exede is meant for rural areas where DSL or Cable are not available. For most having this type of service is a tremendous advantage because Cable or DSL will not come to them and prior to Exede Dial-up is all they could get. However going from a DSL or Cable area to one that only has satellite internet, that will be a pretty big change. We are very excited about the launch of ViaSat 2 coming up in March/April and I think once we can offer the plans after launch, we're going to have some really exciting stuff our customers will be pleased with (more robust plans, plans more suited to allow streaming, ect)
