The phone app allows one to have access to another ISP so you can get clues why you temporarily do not have satellite service
You already have all the features in the app on your Admin Portal via your desktop
The app, if on your computer, would have no value with no internet connectivity

Then again if your internet connection is down and not communicating with your modem, the app will likely have limited functionality.

I downloaded it.
When I couldn't get to the internet this morning, I opened it up and looked at the diagnostic. Everything fine, it says.
Thirty minutes of resetting the modem, rebooting my computer, looking at settings.....
Run the mobile app again and look at diagnostics..... Everything fine, it says.
Call customer service. "54 minute wait," I'm told...... Hold. 30 minutes later I get disconnected.
Run the mobile app again - Everything fine, it says.
Call customer support again. This time it says there is an outage in my area.
Run the mobile app again - EVERYTHING FINE, it says!
Unless you just want to use it for paying your bill, I really don't think there is a need to download the mobile app.

The desktop is dead. Long live the desktop! Dilly, Dilly!

But I suspect what Deb Fo is really talking about is a task bar widget or something similar that provides a quick and easy way to do many of the same things from the desktop environment (or more likely the laptop environment) without going through a slow, clunky browser interface - witness SRT which is severely limited by the data it can scrape off the account pages.
If Viasat were to expose a secured web service based on standards, solutions would undoubtedly popup to fill the void.
