Terrible Internet

Unfortunately I made the mistake of signing a 2 year contract with Viasat. They are quick to come out & repair the dish when it stop working (which has happened 2x) in less than 2 years. However, they claim to me fast which is totally false. I'm paying $90 per month for service that goes out when the wind blows too hard or if it rains a lot. This is just ridiculous!! I wouldn't recommend anyone thinking about signing up for service with them to do so. I can't wait for my contact to end!!!

For the most part, residential satellite internet is only for those who have absolutely no other option.

Good evening Barbra,

I was with Wildblue, Exede, and then Viasat for a total of 7 years.  The service was below par as internet providers go, but as stated above and what you realize, that Satellite internet is for those with no other option.

My install was good, we used the Wildblue pole that was cemented in place and the dish setup never moved, it stayed on the correct azimuth, naturally as the service changed an adjustment was required, but i never required a service visit.  So if your dish is moving it is most likely a poor/shoddy install issue.

If your familiar with weather radar it would take Yellow to Red on weather radar for me to lose the signal.  The system was pretty reliable, but pitifully slow.

There is a Federal Broad Band initiative that has been underway for some time, the government subsidizes rural communities to get Broad Band service.  Check with your local government and insure they know about this and someone is actively pursuing this.

I dropped Viasat (like the proverbial Hot Potato) in June.  Our area had been working on getting FIOS, under the program that I noted above.

I pay100 dollars a month for 100 Mbps, no data caps, no slow downs at any time due to weather, congestion etc.  Stream movies, live TV, anything, i don't play games so i can't vouch for that, but i'm sure you could play any game out there.

They also offer as 1 Gbps service for 179 dollars a month, the 100 Mbps does everything I need.

This is my service tonight at prime time in a moderate rain storm.

Check with your local government, they may be pursuing this, don't let anyone tell you that SAT qualifies for Broad Band under this initiative.

I've never read the initiative, so hopefully your elected local officials get off their duff and help their citizens.

Best of luck, in the mean time V should send someone to your home to secure your dish, if installed correctly it is reliable.
