Speed too slow to watch video

I just recently chose a larger plan for data usage so I can stream video programs. Problem is the speed is so slow I can't even watch anything. What is wrong? I went to help page, said to run speed test, that won't even work. I am so frustrated with Exede. I have been a customer for over 2 years because it's my only choice. I have not ever been pleased with the service.

Post your modem stats (from 192.168.100.1) and we may be able to help you figure out what's going on.

This is not the experience we want you to have. I apologize for your speeds issue, if you can’t even perform a speed test then there is definitely a serious problem with your speeds, Kath. I would be more than happy to take a look at your account and research this problem for you. Please send your account and contact info to exedelistens@viasat.com. Thank you

I finally was contacted via email saying all was well with my speed on exede end BUT it isn't on my end.  Finally ran a speed test with Geek Squad and my download is 6.8 upload is 1.38.  I can't watch a video stream on demand & that is the reason I purchased a bigger data plan.  This is just so frustrating.

Kaotic is correct, you can stream full HD  at only 5mb.  Remember, it's a shared connection, so, if you are doing your speed test and any other device is on your wifi at the same time, you speed test can be dramatically lower.  The only true accurate way to do a speed test is modem directly connected into your computer.

Have you checked your router? By what you are describing I bet you have a Cisco Or Linksys Router. This is a typical problem I see with these. We use a Dlink N300 for our customers with no problems.

Try plugging directly to you Mac from the modem and I bet you see a major difference.

This is absolutely correct, our router slows us down periodically, sometimes to the point we can't even load pages.  Ours is actually a Netgear it  may need a firmware update but usually a restart of the router solves the problem.  So far when we have checked to make sure it was the router and not Exede, bypassing the router always returns us to "normal" speeds.

Yes directly into modem did help. I use an Apple Airport.
