Just following up on the discussion over the past couple of weeks "Speed test comparisons" (now closed). I opted to get the Verizon 7730L. For me it was basically plug and play once the SIM card arrived. I found one spot where I get 3 bars. Sadly, tits on a bull. Latency is great and, oddly, upload is about 1.5Mbps. I never get that with Viasat. Viasat is always below 1Mbps. But download with the jetpack is consistently below 1Mbps. For a refresher, I am in central VA, on the forever overloaded Beam 329. I have checked available plans almost weekly for the past year and always the same 3 Liberty plans. When I checked today, there are 3 more plans added! 2 are the same Liberty (25 & 50) with the wifi added, and the last one is unlimited??? Unlimited Silver 25/$150. Doesn't that seem odd to have a new unlimited show up following letters going out to Freedom and Unlimited customers that their speeds are just going to basically suck due to their unlimited or 150 plans?

I have been testing with a 7730L since Friday evening. Prepaid unlimited plan, with 1 to 3 bars, speeds vary between 3 and 8 Mbps down and 4 to 8 Mbps up, with slower speeds showing up in the evenings. Speeds are dependent on the network traffic on the tower you are using, those on the prepaid plans get the lowest priority.

Without full bar reception, DLs can drop due to signal power decrease with more/more "online." Which is not the same as traffic managed congestion.

Something is wrong. No way should Verizon speeds be that bad.
Does the 7720L say 4GLTE connection? Sounds like 3G.
Update: Shortly after midnight, but Verizon plugging away better than Viasat ever did.

Yes, VeteranSatUser, it does say 4G LTE. With heavy load in mind, like the 329 beam, I ran a test this morning at 8a, weekday lighter use. It is very usable. Ping: 47, Download: 5.41Mbps and Upload: 8.73. At the same time, my Viasat is Ping:627, download: 17.44, and look at the upload: 0.89. My upload never is above 1.0. This morning, the jetpack is actually fluctuating between 3 to 4 bars.

I have the 7730L. I typically am getting around 8 Mbps DL, 8 UP, with one to three bars while at home, 6 miles from the tower. Speeds are about the same when I drive to the area of the tower. Not every Vz towers have high speed data capabilities, it depends on how they are connected to the internet. Some have fiber, many don't, especially out in the rural areas. I am very happy ith the speeds I am getting with my Jetpack, I can do everything I want to do, including 1080p streaming with no buffering.

I checked the Verizon map and it has my address listed 4G LTE Excellent. In looking at a tower map, the nearest tower looks to be about 8 to 10 miles away, my guess would be no fiber. I just tried to watch a video, buffering makes it unwatchable.
I know one bar can bring good speeds, but at 8 to 10 miles away, I'd only use an external antenna...like 15dBi without signal booster, with a short cable run. If longer cable run is needed, a signal booster.
At 1080p vid rate, it will buffer on Viasat's 32bit browser, but not on 64bit Chrome on my older desktop. Chrome has a built in video decode (for video card).

At that distance I'd also want an antenna despite the signal strength. But I'd do what Steve did. Test it closer to the tower. Maybe a different tower too, just to rule out a device issue, but it might only have an issue when pulling in a weaker signal. Your tower could also be screwy. If the speed tests are good enough but video still bothers..., I'd maybe try a different device to be sure.

Antenna brought me two bats better, but your signal strength is better than mine.
I would suggest the test noted above. Drive closer to the tower and see what happens.
I am VERY happy with Verizon prepaid. In fact, I learned today I can save money with a family plan if I prepay everything. I might need to look into that. Bundling! Lol

Yeah, bundling works great. Any plan on line one, jetpack on second ('cause it has the bigger discount), pay with the ebay cards.

If an older computer has a newer video card that can process video decode, latest Chrome versions are one browser that can hand off video to video-card. VS's browser does not currently. If video is being processed in CPU, it will take a faster CPU than what I use.

My PC is 2 yrs old.
If doing this via wireless connection...a number of reasons could reduce speeds. MiFis are limited in broadcast range...they need an extender when MiFi is not near WiFi computer.

Tether 7730L to computer via USB....OR....check network adapters (if Win), and disable ethernet adapter, if this is the case for Viasat. I'd check network adapters first...OR remove ethernet cable from computer.

mine shows that slow of speeds but streams Netflix and all just fine so must be something causing it to read slower speeds then its getting not sure what is up but my speeds on my 7730L can show slower then my Viasat but be alot faster surfing and streaming in fact it will stream at lower speeds then Viasat

It is the low latency. It is what? 5 or 6 times faster than satellite?
I can move my Jetpack just a few feet in the house and speed can increase quite a bit. Keep looking for the sweet spot. I am in Central Virginia 40 miles NW of Richmond. I am in a heavily wooded area 3 miles or so from a tower.
