I have the 25MB unlimited plan that includes a router/WAP. The speed over the wireless access point is half the speed of the ethernet connections, is that normal for this router? Is there a possibility I could improve my speed by connecting another WAP to the router?

In my experience it’s not normal. Possible interference. Check both frequencies.

The router/WAP I was using with prior broadband provider the ethernet speed and wireless speed were the same. I just noticed someone else posted the same issue 6 months ago,so looks like the exede router/WAP. I need to know if I can replace the whole thing or just the WAP or what.

So I experience the same thing but in my case the laptop that is on wireless in my company laptop and it was Kapersky super antivirus anti malware software slowing stuff down.  It wouldn't slow a ping down but anything else including internet speed tests were getting interrogated blowing my times up.  You might look to see if you have some internet security settings on your wifi laptop or devices that is making your network seem slow.

As I said, my speeds using prior router was the same when connected via wireless as when connected via Ethernet, and I have run speed test on my tablet with same results. I'm new to Viasat, is there some way to contact Viasat tech support?

I had the same problem. I made a post about it a few weeks ago. Long story short, I bought another AP and solved problem.
