Sooooo Slow!

I am sick of download and upload speeds in the KB range! This occurs primarily in the evenings. I realize this is peak usage time when the "pipeline" is clogged. BUT, Viasat is still selling services and it's my guess the "pipeline" is no bigger....hence a problem likely to get worse. If this is, indeed the case, Viasat should CEASE SALES until they can provide a solution!

It should be noted, this is while I am below the data cap, not using Liberty Pass!

Certain beams have been very, very slow in primetime recently. I agree. Below 0.5Mbps. This us an awful lot like Christmas time slowdown. Perhaps related to kids being on spring break.

Where are you located?  Peak time now, where?

But peak time all speeds decrease, earlier about 1000 AM, i was 22 mbps, now 13.5, tonight prob 6 PM til midnight 2.5.

V2 has not provided any assistance in spreading the load among beams.

I know they are having issues with some antenna deployment, orientation, too bad.

But yes they are probably still signing up new customers.

Tim,

I'm going to make a phone call and you're going to go even slower.  Watch.

I’d be happy with 2.5 instead of 200 KB. Located in North Arkansas.

You know, I like you J&J, Craig, or whoever. Smartest guy on the forums. I once posted about my experience with emailing. Not to say it doesn’t sometimes work if there is a problem that can be fixed. I think, more often than not though, the problem is simply to little bandwidth on most beams. You, I think, are on one of the few magical beams where rainbows are present and birds chirp happily.

I invite the CEO himself to my house during prime time to stream a movie with me. His choice, I’ll pay for the download. I’ll grill steaks, baked potatoes, and some pineapple. Someone with some power should experience what too many of us are currently. I bet he has cable.

mine has been no connection all month, but they show my modem is online with nothing but a throughput problem, regardless of what they say, it still does not work and according to them it is working fine.

That sounds like a problem between the modem and your device. When they run checks, they can talk to your modem. If they talk to your modem, then the connection is good to THAT point.

I cannot accept your appraisal of my talents.  Truly the smartest guy(s) on this forum is a "dead-heat-tie" with Old Labs and  VeteranSatUser.  I have a long way to go to so much as catch-up with them. Thanks for the complement, but it is undeserved.

I am on a single beam but there are two serving this area, #364 & 369, both not anywhere near loaded to capacity - yet.

The dinner thing with Mark Dankburg...  He's a busy man but I'll show up as his representative and report back to him my dining experience featuring you as the Chef and the embarrassing lack of sufficient Internet speed, supplied by Viasat, to have Internet-streamed entertainment while I was there.  I'm sure he will be disappointed to hear that, although when he hears there will be pineapple, he might just accept himself.

What do you expect??? In anticipation of VS2 actually working and being fully deployed they have completely oversold VS1 with these new plans. 40 gigs for $65 a month??? That’s only $15 more then I was paying for 10 gigs a month. Thank god for HughesNet Gen 5. If viasat hadnt lost 100k customers to Gen 5 just imagine what we’d be dealing with now!!! I’m sick of the BS. Want a complete explanation and roll out plan for VS2. Especially annoying is 2 populated cities 30 minutes from me have Gold 50 available. Why are they opening up VS2 service in populated cities that have cable and fios internet already????

Less subs. So when there are problems a smaller customer base is impacted.

Ever get the feeling Viasat might fold up the antennas and try again?
That would require a planned outage and no mission-critical customers could be on VS2 when that was done.  Our sudden speed decline may be an indicator that heavy bandwidth customers are being moved back to VS1 pending the antenna procedure's outcome.... if that's what is happening.

Sounds plausible.  My speeds definitely went into the crapper 2 to 3 days ago! Central Indiana-lots of planes flying overhead.

Interesting theory. I know one thing. For me this week the primetime speeds have been horrendous. I haven't seen speeds this bad in some time.

The two Viasat1 beams that cover our area have been closed to new customers this week due to congestion.  The majority of this area does not have access to Viasat2 yet.  So at least they're not adding additional customers in certain beams.

Nathan mentioned a lot of Viasat customers switching to Hughes Gen5, we may see quite a few of those customers come back to Viasat2 when available.  Prime time congestion on Gen 5 in our area is so bad that new customers are being installed on the older Echo17 satellite.  Echo19 has become congested in our beams in less than a year with evening speeds sub 1Mbps.  But as always, congestion depends on your location and your specific beam.

I feel silly for mentioning this now, but has anyone thought about the kids being on spring break, combined with "unlimited" internet being the cause of the sudden slow down this week?

These "unlimited" plans which both companies offer that are not really unlimited doesn't help the situation.

Well i have done my part in limiting the congestion, i've only used 85 G of my 150 with one day to go.  Of course my kids will be here tomorrow to spend Easter weekend with us, probably another 10 to 15 G by Sunday evening.

Happy Easter to all who will be celebrating this weekend.

Tim..

You enjoy putting your digs into Viasat more than you would enjoy good speed.  If you want to be a cheerleader to every jerk that comes here knocking Viasat... have that fun you so cherish.  Your wish is granted.

I don't get ticked by every person that comes here complaining about speed, just the one's that use that complaint as a method to slam Viasat unjustly.  There will always be complaints about speed but the Attack part is where I take notice, and I've noticed you, a lot.

I've told you Viasat has little incentive to help you out.  Keep giving them a black-eye at every opportunity and see how that works out for you.

I can't help it if you want to be a Richard, I have done everything i can. It their fault not mine. I pay the serviice cobtract fee. They have been to my house and found nothing wrong. When customer service flat out lies is that my fault ? You can cheerlead all you want and defend their piss poor service to all if these people that are complaining. I am still waiting for new sat that i was told i was moved to last year. Bold faced lie by customer service.

You are the one that was told they moved you to the new satellite....before it was even in final orbit. Not the first thing or the last thing that customer service says that must be taken with a grain of salt.

Yes I was told this and I knew it could not be true. They employ and condone customer service that lies to customers, no other way of looking at it. I called back and asked why and never received an answer. :3 what ever that means

I don't believe it is on purpose. Tier 1 support is basically some basic troubleshooting which includes a couple tests read from a script. Unless you are talking with somebody on the technical staff in Denver, don't take it as gospel

Deku...........

I keep telling you that it's because you're living right.  I have never called customer service in my life but then I don't have to, I have.... ummm....  let's call it....  Other channels of communication with Viasat.

YOU deserve a good speed, always.

The change in servers is probably based on the ping.  Many speed-test sites use the ping to determine the one they think will be the fastest.  Maybe one server for a second had a faster ping than one you were just at.
