Slow speeds

Horrendously slow connection speeds appeared two weeks ago, average 0.20 Mbs Upload during the hours of 4:00 pm to 2:00 am.  No streaming possible.  Doesn't leave a lot of time to use up the 150 GB Freedom Plan.  We are being lied to and jerked around by possibly the worst signal provider on the planet!  I pay $110 a month for this abuse?????

Interesting.  I'm on the 10 gig a month plan and am on Liberty pass right now and downloaded a 1gb video early this morning that I started downloading around 2am.  To have a slow upload or download during prime time is not unusual.  Your bandwidth of 150 gig a month is guaranteed not your upload/download speed during prime time.

I can't stream video very well if at all during the early to mid evening hours when everybody else is on their computers at the same time.  Your best speeds are going to be from around 3am to 4 or 5pm when there is less demand for the service.  If your stuck using your computer during these times because of work or something you can use a download manager to download the videos you want during the day and save them to the computer and you can play them back after you get home at night.

Frankly not interesting but infuriating.  I received high speeds regardless of the time of day until two weeks ago.  Then suddenly it began, the 0.20 Mbs download speeds.  I had a Tier II tech tell me that the Freedom Plan was oversold and that is the cause for the massive, system wide slow down.  He even offered to reduce my bill by $50.  Does that sound like your company-loyal disclaimers about "no guaranteed speeds"?  The tech also stated that there would be relief when a new satellite is launched at the end of April.  Does that sound like there is NO PROBLEM?  Man, if we all wanted to use a program manager to view movies we would be using a bottom rung provider at much less cost.  Please no more putting the onus on users to better manage their times online/streaming and own up to the BS Excede is spreading.  Acknowledge and identify the problem and maybe you will lose fewer customers and have fewer public relations disasters walking arond in the form of former customers.

Philip;

In your first go round you said .20 Mbs upload speed not download speed...makes a difference.   And if you had good speeds up to two weeks  then hopefully it's a temporary situation.  They may be overselling various spot beams...I don't know.  My beam is pretty full and have never had the Freedom option and that is the reason why it's not offered much right now because then everyone will have your experience.  And at least they are offering to reduce your bill $50 so at least give them a little credit.  Try to get some $ back from your cell phone or satellite TV provider.

If your problem is overload and not equipment related then there isn't much you can do until the new satellite comes online.  For a work around consider taking the discount they're offering and use the DL manager.  I have had zero problems with my setup and I expect to have very slow speeds during prime time, it's the nature of the beast as satellite systems are bandwidth limited as opposed to terrestrial Internet options and that is the price we pay for living outside the footprint of such options.

I've had satellite Internet for almost 15 years starting with the one way download and telephone upload system and then going to the first, second and then third generation Hughes system and now on Exede and Exede is much superior to Hughesnet.  The only other option is guaranteed bandwidth on demand Enterprise type systems and they your paying over $1000 a month.  I'm looking forward to the new satellite and being able to get closer to what you get in town but believe it or not most of Exede's residential customers are satisfied or they wouldn't stay in business.  Websites such as this one tend only to draw the people with poor experiences and you get a slanted view of how good/bad it is.  Was the same way when I was on the Hughes forums.

Good luck...

If you believe that the "new satellite" will improve service, I have some beachfront land in Arizona I will sell to you.  It's 2:30 ET in the afternoon and I'm getting 0.61 mbps.

Of course I don't believe there is any "new satellite".  Its just an example of their company line to users when confronted with their own horrible performance.  My signal is as poor as yours..  Basically I have nine hours a day of blackout, covering the heart of so-called Prime Time.  Any ideas on how to approach this issue collectively?

Complain to your state AG.  Possibly a class-action lawsuit.
This post will be deleted as soon as Exede sees it!
