Some info about the new Exede WiFi Modem and 25 Mbps speeds; UPDATE - now available for existing customers!

We recently introduced the Exede WiFi Modem in certain areas of the country. It's currently available for new and existing customers if you're in one of these areas. The new modem includes a wireless router as well as an Exede Voice adapter, so now you can have 3 things rolled into one if you have Voice. In areas where the new modem is available, we've also introduced a 25 Mbps download speed bump for an additional cost ($10/mo in most areas). You can learn more about the new Exede WiFi Modem here.

Ultimately, the goal is to have these kinds of speeds (and higher) plus much bigger data plans all over the U.S. after we launch our next satellite in 2017 (these things take time to build!) Currently we're doing as much as we can with our current capacity, including greater availability of our Liberty plans and this speed boost. If you're not in one of the areas where we're offering these new speeds, hang tight -- our engineers are working as fast as they can to build the satellite and make some even more amazing service available all over the country!

Any plans (other than possibly ViaSat 2) for higher data caps?  I would gladly take half my current speed for twice the data cap.

Old Labs is correct: Liberty is the best data deal we've got (unless you're in a Freedom area, and there's only a handful of those). We have recently expanded its availability. You'll still likely see some slower speeds in the prime time hours in the evening but generally speaking our customers really like Liberty compared to the hard data caps of the Classic plans.

I just called on this and they said that the liberty plan isn't available in my area - hopefully soon!

I have liberty plan. Most of the time Netflix still doesn't work well and even watching one movie a night and basic computer internet usage during the day my family runs out of the priority speeds. I am very disappointed for the price we are charged.

I agree most of us would rather have higher data caps I know I would settle for 10/2 speeds for 10GB more a month. And I dont think your higher speed idea was so great it stopped selling in my area (use to show available online) because it is killing everyones speed now on the SVT Exede site it shows biggest part of the day here as being congested and this started just a couple months after they offered this.

...it would have been friendlier of exede to have allowed customers to turn off priority allowance on liberty plans and kick in lower speeds themselves at any time of the month, rather than 'use it up first' then you're stuck with lower speeds for the rest of the month... now, if you've used up your allowance and have a large download - like an HD movie or a windows update it could take days to d/l. Meanwhile the competition is offering 50 gigs of priority data for $79 as against the 30 gigs from exede for $149. Go figure!

Hey!  That would have been cool to give the user the option of idling down their rate and then turbo charging it on demand!

HughesNet in these parts is $79.99 for 15 GB and then a cap of 50GB more Bonus Bytes.  Same price I have for Exede, except my LNFZ if not capped.  Exede better deal here, but I guess it varies with location.

We signed up three months ago and was told we would get a discount for the first three months. have not seen that. When I called and asked they made promises that they did not keep, plus charged me an extra 10 for calling. We don't watch Netflix or play games just check mail and Facebook and run out of high speed in less than a half a month.

Hi Ann, I would love to take a look at your account and see what is going on. There are many reasons your data may be used so quickly. Please send your account and contact information to exedelistens@viasat.com Thanks and Happy Holdiays!

Maybe you must sign for it in person at the UPS terminal in your area.  If you weren't home to receive it, that's where it will stay until returned to exede as "unclaimed."

I envision a roll of printed labels sitting someplace in the supply chain waiting for something to put them on...

Yeah , I envisioned someone removing my label from the backer , it sticking to their finger , them shaking it off , and finally it sticking to the bottom of their shoe. So I'm either never going to see it .. Or someday an old stinky Nike is going to show up at my door. Even my plan name has changed on my "my exede" page now ...

It all evens out Chad...I had an instantaneous loss of ~6GB of data usage in the middle of my usage cycle.  Bonus, bonus, bonus.

I installed the new 25 Mbps download modem with integrated WiFi 2 days ago. Speeds are good, but the range on the Exede WiFi is not as good as my previous Netgear router. Installed the Netgear router to the new Exede modem and all is good with the combination. How do I turn off the Exede WiFi so both are not broadcasting? TIA!

I did not see a transparent bridging option, you'll either want to see if your netgear offers a bridging mode or you'll have a double nat. Google for explainations.

Chad, I have googled both transparent bridging and double nat, and the explanations are above my pay grade.  However, everything seems to be working correctly now, including the wireless printer connected to the Netgear router, and able to print even from my phone, so I think all is good.  Thanks!

I'd love to give one of the new modems a go. Might not have the range we need (150 ft through two walls) but it might do just fine. Unfortunately I was never offered one so, guess not on my beam right now.

Must be nice....now you can blow through your Priority Data that much faster.  In fact, you can literally go through it 20X faster at your speeds than what many of us are getting.  Glad to know there is capacity somewhere :)

yeah funny how everything runs fine until new packages come out and your contract is up they keep calling me asking me to change packages i still have LNFZ which I need for my beta testing. And seems like after each call my speeds get slower and slower

I have been out of contract for 2 years, an I have never gotten a call or email asking me to change my data package. I subscribe directly from ViaSat. My speed have never been slowed down, except when there are people home from work, or school kids home on break, when the network has more traffic than normal.

I've been out of contract for over a year and they've never called me or slowed my speed. I must not be important, either.

Actually, for the last little while my speed, especially during the LNFZ is back up to where it was a couple years ago.

You are on a transponder that is not overloaded if like mine it gets oversold it will slow. And they call me anytime I file a report that something is wrong or my service is bad like about 3 weeks ago it got so bad I could not open a site without having to reload alot of them 2 or 3 times and it was caused by congestion. Which in turn now i am FAPed after having to reload so much it shows on my usage 75% of it was from web surfing. Not sure if it matters but I am an Elite Customer since I have been with the company for so long.

Sue - is that normal speed or is this after you used your priority data?  Which plan are you on?
