Just got Viasat. It is slower than my old DSL. If you run the speedtest it says its 10 times faster but in actual use its not. Has anyone else experience this and found a solution? My ping measurement is much slower than DSL.
Ping is the 22,000 mile trip to the satellite and back, nothing will overcome that 3/4 second lag time. You cannot defeat the laws of physics. Unless you live in New York it seems satellite internet is a poor choice over anything other than dial up.
I also have observed an average ping time of 2-3 times the advertised 600 ms. Speed tests are not a good way to measure the actual browsing/user experience of geostationary satellite internet. But of course Viasat loves to have customers use speed tests because it shows relatively fast download speeds for larger data chunks.
