Fred, I'm sorry that Exede service is not what you expected but, we can't help if we don't know what issues you are having? Out of data too soon, slow speeds? Perhaps if you tell us, we can help you.

Hi Fred

Please email exedelistens@viasat.com and we'll be able to help you out. Keep in mind that Satellite does have limitations which we lay out here http://www.exede.com/what-to-expect/

I own all of the latest and fastest components. I cannot get a download speed that even reaches 5 megabits per second. I am now paying more for this sub standard service than i was with Comcast in portland. the data cap sucks too. late afternoon and until almost midnight many pages time out. i am looking at a class action lawsuit. I was promised that there were going to be more satellites launched to handle the future load. yet another lie.

There was another satellite launched, and that is a fact, not a lie.

Depending on your beam, the time of day, etc. the download speed will fluctuate.  Run an accurate speed test at 3:00am in the morning and see what you get.

Read your contract, you will get nowhere with a lawsuit.  But if you want to waste your time, have at it.

I assure you Viasat 2 was launched in June of this year and, is now in the process of working itself into it's required geostationary orbit.

You can watch the video of the launch here: https://youtu.be/zy_lrhoyxtc

My download speed is great -- however, the upload speed seems extremely slow (2.46) making it impossible to work some of my programs.

Mark, here is a little comparison between cellular data and Exede Service I did on my cell phone. All cell tests are done in Texarkana, with 5 bars of LTE service. All WiFi tests are done at my home, using Exede Service. As you can see, Exede beats cellular on all but latency.

I just measured my T-Mobile 4G which used to be 15 - 20 Meg and it measured 1.6Meg down.  I was getting 5 Meg on Viasat Liberty this afternoon.

Peak usage time now, getting 2.22 down and 0.49 upon 4G LTE and, 13.65 down and 6.23 up on Viasat both tests to the same host server - Sprint in Dallas, TX. I think Viasat wins :)

Exede is actually much faster than my Verizon LTE. Verizon’s advantage is the latency and consistency of speed.

People assume Exede is the only option for us "country folk".  Not true.  I had Verizon for many many years.  Started with their 3g usb modem and went to 4g and 45mbs before I switched to Exede.  Was able to get 15 times the data and have been streaming shows ever since.  Getting about 5mbs this morning and streaming just fine.

Checked with ATT and was able to get a hotspot/home phone device for free under a two year plan. For only $20 a month, I get 22gb + (only throttled if necessary). Got two and we are surfing at speeds faster than Exede could offer with low latency and for only $40 a month!  This is why investors are shorting VSAT and expect it to fail.  It can't compete with the options coming out.  Att Fixed wireless will be in our area shortly as well and will provide 160GB of data for only $60 a month.  Again, no latency and no rain related issues.   Check it out!!!

"only throttled as necessary"?   Not according to ATT data policy

"After all your high-speed data allotments are used, all data usage is slowed to a max of 128Kbps (2G speed) for the rest of the bill cycle. "

Quote:  Tethering on your phone or tablet is throttled to 128 kbps, or 2G speeds after 22 GB.

If you have a mobile hotspot device (mifi) it is subject to the reprioritization and is not throttled.

Nope.  Never.  Anyhow enjoy your streaming at max 1.5 Mbps video and data streaming at 3 Mbps.  Hope that option changes for you.  You originally did a post on how silver unlimited dropped your speeds from 10 down to 2-4.  Trade offs.  Your plan isn't a terrible one.  If I had cell service, I'd do either ATT or Verizon.  They refuse to expand, and their cellular network experiences outages and slowdowns no different than Exede.  I am jealous of their latency numbers though.

My data streaming is pretty regularly 6-7Mbps and I have not noticed any video issues. You may be confusing my plan with the unlimited choice plan.  The incremental cost of adding this was significantly lower than Exede, which was a great tradeoff.

I'm confused.  Was this thread created to talk about how bad Exede sucks or how bad AT&T/Verizon/Sprint suck?

For the record, I recently switched phone service from Verizon to Metro PCS (T-mobile) and am very pleased.  Verizon used to be the best in my area but that changed when they started offering unlimited data.

T-Mobile used to suck in my area.  Now T-Mobile is pretty dang good.  In the city I get speeds as high as 78 mpbs on T-Mobile and at my house I've seen speeds as high as 18 mbps.  My current speed is 7 mbps.

Verizon used to have speeds as high as 12 mbps at my house, but when they started offering unlimited data it became very rare for me to get speeds above 1 mbps, hence me switching to Metro PCS (T-Mobile).

Gotta love that MetroPCS/T-Mobile thing eh?  You get 78Mbps downloads?  Cool.  In San Jose I get a flat 50Mbps up/down... always.  When I tether to my laptop I get the same and if I burn out my data (8GB for local hotspot) it's supposed to slow down to the "Network Average" until I pay more but it has never slowed down yet no matter how much I use.  Yup, gotta love Metro/T-Mobile.

Don't forget T-Mobile will give you a booster if you have any signal quality issues whatsoever.  The boosters they hand out now go about $50 on eBay.  I can't use one due to one mountain between me and San Jose.. oh well, such is life.

Interesting.  My MetroPCS plan is unlimited data on the phone but supposedly only 10 GB for the hotspot.  I just use the hotspot on the road since Exede works pretty dang good at home.

I don't get 78 mbps everywhere, but super duper fast speeds such as 50 mbps aren't uncommon when I'm in the city.

Do you have to be a T-Mobile subscriber to get one of there boosters?  It works pretty good at my house but I do live out in the sticks so every once in a while the signal drops.  Would be nice to get a booster from T-Mobile although I get their service from Metro PCS so I thought they would just laugh at me for asking.

Actually, whats funny is my parrents live farther in the sticks than I do and they get 50 mbps on T-Mobile (Metro PCS) and my speeds have never been past 18 mpbs at my house.

I got mine from a T-Mobile "Corporate" store.  The regular dealers can't give them out to Metro customers.  Mine is a   CEL -FI-D32-24.  It works real good on a mountain top (even LTE) and I'm in the process of building a 5Ghz link to extend it's reach a bit further than designed ( I'll be going just over a mile down to where I live).  They use 5Ghz 802.11a for the link from one box to the other.  This is might not be legal to do but where I live it's "anything goes" because it is so remote, besides, 5Ghz is unlicensed right?

Nice.  I may have to walk into a T-Mobile "Corporate" store and ask about it.  I suppose the worst they could say is no.

I'm pretty dang happy with Exede, but it would be nice to have T-Mobile booster if I can get one for free.

People say the Liberty pass is garbage but I've been playing on the internet using the Liberty pass for about two hours now, no problems.

i have recently been with exede about two weeks at first was happy i could finallly get internet the Roku devices work for the wife and daughter however i work from home and consistently only get 5-6 mbps despite my silver unlimited 25 Mbps i've never been above 6 really frustrating the installer mentioned used to work for hughes and assured me this choice is superior in terms of technology and bang for your buck.  I recommended another neighbor in my subdivision but am compelled to tell him what i've been gettign for my 100.00 dollars per month

The installer was correct.

You have unlimited data and speeds faster than some slow DSL providers. Hughesnet might give you more speed today, but they don't have unlmited nor do they have a new satellite coming online in less than six months.

Forgot to mention, I went into a T-Mobile corporate owned store a couple of weeks ago.  They didn't stock the boosters and told me it was something only available from the custoemr service phone number.  They said the boosters are only available to T-Mobile customers and not Metro PCS.  They even went as far to tell me the booster wouldn't work the Metro PCS.  I'm tempted just to go on eBay and  buy one.

Everything about this company from the start was under handed. im 69 yrs old an i feel abused by this company the fist or second day i wanted out, trying to tell me i had to pay 300.00 to get out .i told them i had a mind to turn them in as abusing a senior citizen! then they offered me to get out for 150.00 dollars!!!!!! this internet service is the worst I've ever had. nothing much was explained then i realized i was trapped!! the internet runs so slow. if u don't allow them to take money out of ur account, an ur not paying right on the billing date they turn u over to a collect business!!!! just to much to type the things wrong about this service i want out.

look I have A 1 credit! i can buy anything i want! that's not the point here.if ur referring to canceling early yes, but that's not the point, when ur not up front with a potential customer and  not disclosing information about the service is sneaky an underhanded! not even a curdious to the customer of 30 days refund if not satisfied is given, that's because they know its totally about the company's earnings nothing about about  the customers. get it? And the fact Im a senior citizen!!they can get in big trouble over this n hey knew it,  and is why they offered me 50 percent on canceling son!! nothing good about this low class company! I'm sorry i left my old providers
.I pay my bills ahead of time. I bet anyone of u don't have my credit score to. what ? u people don't understand English?

I’m trying to figure out what being a senior citizen has to do with all of it. Does entering that age group instantly make you more gullible? Does it mean all those years of experience are for naught? I know you get a drink discount at McDonalds, but where is the downside? I feel more for younger people who I expect to be more naive about conducting business matters.

Sounds to me like another one that signed the Customer Agreement without reading it, just assumed the installer would spoon feed it to them. Happens sometimes, not Viasat's fault people don't take ten minutes to read and let the installer wait.

I don't believe the senior citizen part with that spelling and grammar. She sounds more like a product of the modern school system and spending too much time texting on a phone.
