Slow Speeds

I've had this service for just over a week now and download speeds are mediocre at best.  Prime time is the worst with download speeds as low as .5M Download and 2M for the highest.

RX Power is -33.9
RX SNR is 9.1db
Cable Resistance is 2.5 ohm.

Are these speeds normal?  Was I just sold a bill of goods that I will have to live with for the next 2 years?

Speeds are lower than normal right now because it is the holiday season.

That being said, depending on your location during Primetime throughout the year, speeds of that level are not uncommon.

Things "should" improve however once Viasat-2 comes online in the first quarter of next year.

Thanks for the info.  I assume the lower speeds are due to overselling the current satellite capacity.  What is Viasat-2?  New satellite in addition to what they currently have or replacement of what they currently have?  I would think that would give us some relief until they oversell that one as well.

Sorry for the negativity.  Just a little disappointed in my local provider that sold this to me stating I would get better speeds.

Viasat-2 is a complimentary satellite to Viasat-1, but it is newer, more powerful, and bring much needed capacity. It shpukd be online in 1 - 2 months tops.

May I ask your geographic location? Right now performance is very much tied to that. Some beams really get hammered from usage, others not so much.

I suspect you live in a high usage area, but perhaps not.

Terry,  I'm in Waynesboro, Beam 326.  I think you are probably in the same beam and my speed has been horrible,  about 1.5 mbs DL this morning, when traffic should be fairly light!

There is a really good dealer in Tennessee, I think around the Nashville area. I would reach out to Diana and have her get your stats reviewed. It doesn't take much for a bad installation to cause low speeds. Incorrect cable, bad grounding, etc.

You should run multiple speed tests. One early morning, afternoon, and evening. If you see significantly different results, your speed is most likely a congestion issue. But if you are always seeing speeds below 2Mbps, definitely reach out to Diana.

Hi Terry, Please call Viasat Customer Care at 855.463.9333 or send an email to viasatlistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information. We'll need to review your account to determine what the issue is.

Diana,  I have talked to Customer Care a couple of times now and no matter when I call it's the same answer, high network traffic.  I had good speeds this morning from 7:00-9:00am CST but now I'm back at 1.5M download.  I'm sure it's due to network traffic.  No need to send information to Customer Care.
