Reliability?

Our service is frustratingly unreliable. Sometimes it is awesome, other times we literally have no service. Not slow, none, zero, zilch. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with the weather. We just upgraded to their new satellite and I was hoping this would not be a problem anymore but apparently it is. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking we should just cancel because we pay an obscene amount of money for something that doesn't work. I work from home with lots of client contact and I simply can't have this. It seems like I'm better off putting my money towards renting office space where I can get wired internet.

Also, does anyone know how I can check if service is working at my house again? I have to drive 20 miles away to get internet/cell phone service so its helpful to be able to verify before I go home again that I will have internet when I get there. Usually the outages are 2-3 hours but it would be really awful to go home after 4 hours only to see the service is still not available.

There is a phone app that will tell you if your internet is working. For Android phones, in the Play Store, look for the ViaSat Internet App. I am sure there is a similar app in the iPhone store.

Awesome thank you! Do you know why all of a sudden this service doesn't work? I've been using satellite internet since 2001 and from 2010-2017 it was great but this year has been a nightmare. I don't care if its blazing fast, just need it to be reliable. :(

Is it where I live? Used to be no one living in the mountains outside of Boulder, now we have tons of people up here working remotely.

It could be related to beam congestion, but maybe there is something wrong with your install. Bad ground? Tria going bad? Things to consider.

I don't understand why its either really fast and great or nothing at all. There is no middle ground. They are going to come out and do a service check.  Last time it took three appointments to finally get someone out. They did tell me since I just renewed I can cancel with no fees in the first 30 days of my new contract. So at least theres that. Every now and then I get a cell phone signal at my house so maybe in a few years satellite internet will no longer be something I have to deal with. Would be so nice!!!!!

Never heard of a 30 day trial period for Viasat.

Every now and then it goes out here too for no apparent reason. I just load up the modem page @ http://192.168.100.1/ minimize it then play a game or two of freecell by that time it's usually recovered. I wish I could tell you what causes it but I have no idea.

Out of the 4 Internet Service Providers I have had AOL, AT&T DSL, Time Warner Cable, and since moving to the country Exede/Viasat I have to say satellite is the most unreliable.

On the other hand I'm also kind of grateful, Exede was the only one that actually sent someone out here in the woods to set up internet for us, others said they would send someone out here to check if we could get it but no one would ever show up. And I also like the fact that If we go over our data limit they don't charge extra but still give us data to use even if its at slower speeds.

I hope they can fix your modem so that it reconnects automatically and in a more timely manner.
