Question: How is Viasat2 rollout going for NW Ohio area?

My beam is very congested. I have Freedom Plan which is good in theory if I had any speed in the evening. I have been holding on for the "things will improve when V2 rolls out" but no new plan offerings and no improvement. Actually things have gotten worse as many nights are below 1. So is the rollout ongoing and may come to my area, or am I an unlucky customer in a spot that will not see improvement? Thanks for your help.

Keep Freedom(new) and stay on VS1, and hope other users in your beam switch/upgrade. No way I'd give up Freedom(new) to move over to VS2. Viasat will not let you stay on the same plan when switching.

I agree. However, I was wondering how the roll out was progressing as I thought it would be 1st Quarter 2018 and now it is mid July with nothing available in my area. Do I just need to wait and it will come to my area?

We don't know. the VS2 sat antenna did not unfold correct in space. So it is not working as expected. Viasat claims VS2 service is nation wide. But as you and others have seen that is not the case.

Unless you are in a high density spot beam with Viasat'2 (that is slim chance in NW Ohio), then you would get the Viasat-2 large beam, which isn't all that much an improvement, if any.

In no way would I give up my Feeedon plan right now.

Same here in SE Ohio.  Waited all this time for the launch, then for it to go online in early 2018 to miraculously "solve everything."  Mid July, and things have only gotten worse ... MUCH WORSE!

Yep. This morning it was 9Mbps. It just goes to show you, no consistency in performance whatsoever.

I don't expect 9 all the time. I don't even complain about 500kbps. But when it gets around 200kbps or lower the internet is basically unusable.

I couldnt care less about "speed," I just want what I am ultimately paying for ...  internet access when I want it!  I dont download anything.  Some nights during my free zone I watch Youtube videos, but waiting during the day for Facebook posts to load or email, but the worst is searching online for car parts.  I am already frustrated from working on my car, I need a part, I have to sit and wait for the stores page to load so I can enter info ... IF it doesnt time out before loading.  I dont want "hyper fast" internet, I would just like internet I CAN USE when I need/want it!

I care about speed if it is too low to have workable internet in 2018. Lol.

If VS2 isn't available in your area NOW, it's not going to be. There are areas that I know dealers in who are stuck with VS1 and some of them told me that they are afraid their beam is getting close to being shut down.

Wow Vet, you must be close to  know "holes" like those.  We avoid Athens county as much as possible, but we lived in Trimble, Glouster, Jacksonville area before escaping to here.  We hit stores in MoCo for quick stuff but got to Zanesville for any serious shopping,  yup a 40+ mile trek one way but we LOVE our privacy out here   ((cough, cough))

What exactly is the odd small beams? I believe it is some of the underperforming high density spot beams due to the antenna issue?

Yes. Makes it a nightmare for national sellers...virtually impossible to use flyers.

I have some flyers hitting sw GA in a couple days....made sure all the addys were 100meg small beam. Even with THAT however we are going to have to run the address through FIRST just to verify.

That is a nightmare! I know I plugged in my address and it has a 30MB option. My neighbor two miles east, nada.

Makes me real leary of the performance I would get. I have been on the edge of a Viasat-1 spot beam with a low SNR. It is no fun!

Each beam will be different but I am seeing a few places now have a VS-2 upgrade option. We can check for you if you'd like please email viasatlistens@viasat.com

Greg. I didnt know the 43 zip code extended that far to the northwest! I could argue you are really in that state up north, as the border war was right where you are.

Your zip produces a result I have not seen recently. It says Viasat is available only from a local retailer and you must contact them for availbility. Wild!

Anyhow, you are in the crap plan area. That means for $200 you could get 65GB of priority data at up to 12Mbps. For that amount, both the speed and priority data allotment is pathetic. Your Freedom plan gives you more at a lower cost.

So it looks like Viasat-2 has nothing to offer you.

Thanks Veteran for getting back to me. It is  definitely a border war here Thanksgiving weekend when Ohio State plays Mich.
$200 is a lot of cash. I could live with 65GB it if stayed above 6MBps although I don't love the latency. But there is no guarantees for now or the future. Based on being burnt once with Excede, it would be stupid for me to count on an improvement in speed with V2. And with V2 plans being crap, V1 will probably not get less congested. I have to find another source of internet. I don't trust Hughesnet ether although there are a lot of neighbors with it so it may perform better here. Or a tower and cell booster for Verizon. LIke most people with Viasat, I don't have other good options.
Thanks again.

I don't know if those even are Viasat-2 plans. A local dealer would have to confirm that. If I had to guess, they are not Viasat-2 plans.

They are different than what I have available on myexede website. Those are only Liberty 15, 25 & 50 which are not as good as my Freedom. They have 480p where I can get HD during non-congestion.

Yea. If you got Freedom I would stick with it. While you might get better performance on Viasat-2 (if you could get it), the plan design and pricing structure for what you get is questionable.

Still surprised over a year later the Viasat-2 beam map never leaked.

If they do file an insurance claim, good luck keeping the original plans and how things ended up quiet.
