Question about the Modem Fee with the Lifetime Lease.

Hello, I had an early bird sign up for Exede in 2012 and was able to get the Lifetime Lease for the modem. Now, five years later, I'm interested in signing up for the Unlimited Silver 25 plan that's available on my beam. To sign up for this plan, you're required to get the Viasat Wifi Modem. So, if I do sign up for the Unlimited Silver plan, would getting this new modem nullify the Lifetime Lease I currently have, requiring me now to pay a monthly lease fee? Or, will my lifetime lease be carried over to this new modem? Thanks for answering!

I'm not a very smart man but a lifetime lease is a lifetime lease. I would think you wpuld simply trade in your existing modem.

Probably not...

Our lifetime lease is a great option. At $299.99, it covers the lease payment for as long as you use the same model of equipment that is originally leased to you.
Just guessing, but a moderator will be along to clarify - sometimes lifetime doesn;t mean lifetime and then of course whose lifetime are we talking about? Your's or the equipment's ;)

I was in same boat and yes you will have to start paying the monthly lease they tell you to keep the old modem since you paid for it

So you are saying the definition of the lifetime lease is the same type of definition as the "unlimited" plan :).

But seriously, I wouldn't have expected to switch to a different model and NOT have to pay a lease fee.

Well that sucks. Let's just hope the original poster broke even on his or her lifetime lease.

I just realized the original poster had Exede since a long time ago. Yep, he or she broke even. At least there's some good news out of it. I would seriously hold out until via sat to girls online, and see if there's some good plans on me ass at 1 that will let you keep your original equipment.

I agree. Don't upgrade now when another new modem is coming in a couple months!

Since the Lifetime Lease was only offered in the early part of 2012, those of us that have it have definitely gotten our money's worth. I see no need to change to a plan that won't allow me to use my SB2 modem. 12 Mbps is fine with me and suits my demands for internet service, and I certainly don't want the poorly performing WiFi modem.

Thanks for answering everyone!  I figured the lifetime lease referred to the equipment (modem) only and not me.  Oh well, I guess I'll just wait until the Viasat-2 plans come up and go from there.  Hopefully, they'll have another Lifetime Lease like they did with Exede when it first rolled out.  Either that or the new plans will have compatibility with the old modem because I'm happy with 12 Mbps as well.
