problem with voice service

Sometime around Christmas our voice service stopped working.. I didn't even know until my kids started texting me concerned that they couldn't reach me.. I don't know how long it was out. When we do have phone service we many times have an echo.. I say a sentence , hear the echo of my voice say it, then the person on the other end responds. 
Last week we had no voice service again.  I managed to get enough cell service to call tech support.. I got some song and dance about how they were switching to a new system and some phone numbers didnt get switched.. ours was one of them.. The lady I talked to in voice support said it was fixed..   
I used the phone earlier today, then when I went to use it again tonight I got the "this device not connected" message again, that was what I was getting last week.. and it supposedly was fixed.. 
I did shut everything down and restart it and it began working again.. 
the tech was not helpful at all.  
What am I supposed to do?

The echo is part of using satellite internet to transfer voice. You will always have a slight delay. A little annoying, but not always as prevalent in calls from my past experience. I gave up on voice when it became a hassle to activate it when I received the new modem. If you have a phone that supports it, look into using WiFi assist calling. That will provide you with a backup if you experience a problem in the future.
