For several days massive amounts of spam has been posted on the forum, and nobody has done anything about it.  I know you are figuring on deleting that forum and going to this poor excuse for one, but you could at least maintain that better one while it's still there.

Hi ask me,

Thanks for your compliment about this forum, we pride ourselves on answering questions and resolving problems.

So, your question is about spam on the wild blue world forum?

Are you referring the canned meat product made mainly from ham? Or the irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent on the Internet to a large number of recipients. As is your post above.

I would suggest you post your complaint on the other forum in question, while it’s still there.

Glad to help, even though it was a poor excuse for an answer.

Everett

Thanks, but I didn't say anything about the people or the help on the forum, but the forum itself.  The way it is set up.  The other forum is easier to read, categorize, browse through, post related or off topic posts and have conversations (and the moderators used to join in) and the Viasat employees don't rename posts or "archive" them over there.  And what good would it do to post there if the Viasat employees aren't paying attention to it?

"ask me's" complaint about the Wildblue/Exede forum is a legitimate one and appropriate for this community. That forum is monitored/moderated by the same moderators appearing here although less frequently it seems now - some of the members here are members there and its history long predates this one, not to mention Exede itself .

Specifically he is referring to "spammers" who have abused the Groups feature by   created their own groups for their spam, but those don't really interfere with the normal operation of the forum.

Being a member of both (some of the more helpful members there don't actively participate here for many of the reasons "ask me" mentions - too bad since you're missing out on some longer term satellite experience and lessons learned along the way). I do find the Wildblue/Exede forum easier to follow, better organized and easier to search than this one. From a technical perspective, I find it to be more informative than this one, IMHO. I find it to be more robust than this one, allowing you to also edit and review responses, prior to submitting them among other features (keeping the spelling/grammar police at bay), link directly to other responses/posts, and quickliy quote someone you're replying to (so you can tell who's responding to whom).

Most of the questions here have already been answered there and members here would be well served to search for answers to their problems there, and the same questions are asked/answered ad nauseam on both.

Rumor that it's going away appears to be just that at least according to an Exede Alex post I recently read.

Hey guys, I have personally sent a report out to see what we can do to get this spam taken care of. As I'm sure you've seen, there is quite a bit on the forum, so please bear with us as we get this issue squared away. Thank you for sharing this ask me.

Hey, I've been chipping away at the spammers on the other forum but there's a ton of them! I have to whack them one at a time.

I did not see where Exede was connected to any other forums. I do now, and I agree, there is a lot more info on the WildBlue/Exede “wildblueworld” forum.

This morning, 1st cup of coffee, I did not see the reason to post about spam from one forum onto a different forum. And belittle it at the same time. I do see the connection now, and have to agree, why 2 forums? The old WildBlue and the new Exede?

I do agree with ask me, spam is a waste of pixels on my eyes and mind.

I think Exede would make members register with their account numbers to be able to post on the forums. Then you know the post is from a dues paying member. Visitors could still see the post information, but not reply, or spam as the case maybe.

I do think that new members, new to internet where for all. Can navigate the Exede forum easier. Less category’s; Questions – Problems – Ideas – Praise – Announcements. Where wildblue world is much more extensive. If your widget is broke, how do you know if you need a blue or a red one? What’s a widget, how do you re-boot one? Well, you catch my drift.

When I started with computers, I still have the main error message burned into my head: Syntax Error! Auh What??? And when I made an internet connection, it was at 300 baud and sounded like a screeching box of silverware crashing to the floor. BUT I was CONNECTED! There was NO SPAM! It was rocket science for the day. Now, it’s more complicated, expensive, and still does not meet everybody’s needs and wants.

It’s your world, I’m just passing through.

My comment was in response to Lab Rescuer's comment about where he checks the forum, and I stated why I like checking it the way I do.  Which I could have said it was I guess....  Guess I could manually quote here.  I knew about "ignore", but my thought is more like if the lights are still on over there so to speak, when a moderator has viewed his profile as can be seen, why isn't the account deleted after more than a couple days of abuse?  Besides, if I ignore, I might miss out on a super deal for something.

ChrisBarters has pretty much made the What's New link useless unless you actually login and have him/her in your ignore list. Too bad - now that "ask me" pointed it out to me, I would have used it to quickly check what's new without logging in - but ignore only works when logged in.

I'd think a moderator could just disable the account, but the mole would likely pop right back  up under a different persona - appears he/she has multiple personas:

"check what's new without logging in"  Exactly.

When it first started "they" took turns.  Only way I know of would be to temporarily disable new registers, and/or add an extra challenge to signing up.  Looks like there might be one special word to type in now, but it's in plain text.  Not even a Captcha required.

FWIW and now that I use iMacros for alot of things, I've just setup a simple script to go to the What's New page and automatically login - once there It's fairly easy to add ChrisBarters (and others) to the ignore list. Once added, bookmarking and subsequently running the script logs in automatically and I only see ChrisBarters and others as they flash by in passing - not ideal but less aggravating and saves me some typing/clicking compared to how I used to check for new/updated posts.

I'm finding iMacros to be useful for a number of repetitive tasks I perform on a daily basis - despite the fact it can be finicky on some web sites.
