What is the pole sized needed to mount the Exede Dish? Bonus question what size for Dish Network dish, also.
Local place keeps saying they need to order the poles, so frustrating, they are just poles. Going on a month now.
Doing my own post work, running solid copper rg6, grounding, bonding...just need the poles. Figured I could just swing by Home Depot and pick up a couple.
From my searching it seems that the exede post needs to be at least 9 feet long and schedule 40 pipe but haven't found the size (1-1/2" 2", ???)
Thanks!

If you have a VERY long coax run, LMR-400-75 cable is superior to anything the installer shows up with and you could argue it is needed for a long cable run (over 200'), otherwise, let the installer supply the cable.
If you use LMR-400-75, remember to get their connectors as that cable cannot use standard F-75 types.

Thanks Craig,
The local fellas, last time they installed my upgraded dish just used copper clad. No grounding and had issues, to where the cable actually "opened" somewhere, lost continuity.
It'll be a short run of 25 feet or so for the Exede and about 75 for the Dish Network cable.
I'll be using the local dealer to remount and position the dish's but everything else will be me.
2" x 10 foot schedule 40 pipe, got it!

Alex, Buddy,
Thanks for replying to my first post ever on this site and NOT answering my question.
ViaSat-approved, exactly, what does that mean?
"More specifications", great!, what are they?
Not asking for proprietary info here, just pole sizes. (original question)
Reading my post you would have seen that the reason I'm even signing up and posting here is because it's been so frustrating waiting almost a month for the "installer" to order/get the posts.
As for the "not a DIY job" stuff, you don't know my skill level and having a blanket response like you guys use comes across as demeaning and indifferent.

Exactly David!
Just moving the Dish's off the side of the garage and putting them on poles.

This is all pretty funny. The pole and cabling I'm using were installed many years ago for the big antenna of C Band. Hughes net and EXEDE installers both used the C band cables with the exception of a new ground wire. When they removed the C Band antenna, they bolted a cross bar to the pole to hold the EXEDE and DirecTv - the latter already there. It is a sturdy pole of about 4in sunk in concrete, but it's only head high.

Put 3 feet in the ground and that leaves the dish around 6 foot off the ground.
He said it didn't matter how far off the ground the Dish Network dish was.
Silly rules and requirements.

Hi Diana,
Not moving the dish, just getting the poles set with concrete and giving the concrete time to set before having the tech move the dish.

Don't know why Exede is so cloak and dagger about poles saying things "Exede Approved Pole" without emphasizing difference between an ' approved ' pole and a schedule 40 galvanized pipe.
I would of had to order a 2" x 10' galvanized pipe anyway, from Home Depot, seems that size isn't very popular to keep in stock, so decided to wait out the 'authorized dealer' to get an 'authorized pole'.
Turns there is a vast difference in poles. If someone else is finding this thread I would recommend getting the Exede pole.
The Exede pole is thinner lighter than schedule 40 pipe and is a hexagon except for the top mounting area, which is round.

Unfortunately, even though you may have gotten your hands on an "Exede Approved Pole", your warranty will still be void if you perform the work yourself.

Just wanted the poles so I can get them set in concrete before having the local dealer move the dishes for me.

If an installer allows the customer to do any of the installation, the installer will be held responsible if anything is not to specifications.

No worries.
Going to be using 2 bags of QuickCrete (160'ish pounds) per pole.

Thanks.
Going to drill a few holes and run some 6" bolts through.
1-5/8" pole for Dish Network is a thin fence post, thinking of using 1-1/2" schedule 40 pipe as well for the Dish, uh, Dish.

Said hexagon shape keeps pole from wanting to turn.
I got it from the local Exede /Dish Network guy, in town. Zip is 64772 if you want to look them up.
He pulled it out his truck for me. $75 for both poles.

My lawn mower recommends using genuine Koehler 10w30 oil but I like using O'Reilly's full synthetic 10w30 oil.
Just like 10w30 oil is a 10w30 oil, a 2"×9' pole is a 2"x9' pole.

a 2"×9' pole is a 2"x9' pole.Then use a 2"×9' PVC pole. Cheaper, and easier to cut :)

You can mount it to a wooden pallet (which I have seen done) and throw it out in the yard and it will work .. . for a day or two.Good idea! I was wondering what to do with those pallets piling up behind our shop :)

A 2"×9' metal post to hold an Exede Dish 5' off the ground, is a, 2"×9' metal post to hold an Exede Dish 5' off the ground.
Christine Conrad, did you just ask the thickness of my pole, in a public forum?

For those of you who don't know what this is (hard to believe but true), this is what an "Advance Fee" Scam Email looks like. The perp promises millions but wants you to send them some money first.

But, with that said, I'm sure that isn't the first, nor the last, of these types of posts. It's the first one I've ever seen on a board like this, as it's usually relegated to email, but I'm sure it's only the beginning. Nigeria seems to be the most often mentioned in this type of scam, at least in my experience.
Hopefully people are well read enough to know exactly what things like that are, and won't assume that they are legit because they are on a board that's trusted.

Scammers prefer Email because it's a lot less work to send 10,000 Emails, knowing they'll get to at least one, clueless nim-null, reading and responding.

As for pole mounting it isn't rocket science and doesn't require an advanced mechanical engineering degree like many claim. Some of the advice given here by those that would not know axle grease from elbow grease is pretty laughable.

The problem isn't what someone can or can't do, the problem is who needs to do it. People may not like it, but that's the reality.

Fortunately after that clown's visit I gave cell wireless internet another try and it finally worked good enough to move on from Viasat. I had tried cell wireless twice before in prior years and it wasn't usable. A lot of people here claim it is all about the install, but common sense tells me some areas either receive a poor cell signal or are extremely over sold and congested. Are you telling me over a half dozen years and a half dozen techs no one knew how to dial in my dish so it would work as good as DSL?

I think all mine were bad for one reason or another. The techs that came either lacked a good selection of tools, knowledge, or started to get impatient when my issues weren't a quick fix. One guy who appeared well equipped and knowledgeable complained that he was going to have to skip the gym on the way home because my service call was taking too long, them went on about how he used that to relieve stress, blah, blah, blah.Search for the standards - it's a fairly comprehensive document at 20 pages - only you can determine how thorough they were by knowing what should have occurred.
I've had two installers out - 1 good and 1 very bad. I call the good one directly now rather than wasting my time on installer roulette through my customer support number. The good one never made excuses or seemed disinterested over the course of the 3 hours he was here last time - the very bad one had an excuse for everything , cut corners and was anxious to leave.
But yeah, up until about the time you left, beam 329 was notorious for being oversold and only started to improve noticeably with the policy changes for me on a Liberty plan.
