This is really bad business when others do come out here.. Please help I can't afford this. I need an unlimited plan.. at this price I should be getting it.

If you are in a beam that offers unlimited, or really 150 GB, you could get that. The bad news is there are very few beams that have that plan. We would all love unlimited, but it just isn't available to most of us. I have been waiting for over 25 years now for Time Warner to come the one more mile to serve me and my neighbors, but that will probably never happen. They want $10,000 to extend the line to my house, so I have learned to live with my 10 GB a month.

I am in a similar boat, Frontier has fiber optic cable run to the closest switching box but they haven't upgraded the equipment to allow for DSL and I doubt they ever will since the road I live on doesn't have that many people on it.

Sadly charter wants that too from me to run the line to the house. House is 1700' off the road and they were going to have to run about 2k feet of cable :'(

I do not have Exede but was reading through post here and came across this one. Where are you getting that you are at 80%. Just my thinking maybe it's 80% remaining and not 80% used???

There are some things you can do to help with usage though. Make sure all your programs are set to not automatically update (Adobe Flash Player, Java, Browsers, and other programs). These all have auto updates but most you can change settings to notify you when there are updates. Also make sure windows update is not set to automatically download. Windows 7 you can set it to check but choose when to download. Windows 8 and 10 (I think both not sure with 8) you must set your connection to metered by going to advanced options (only wireless connections can be set metered).

Exede has a chart that tells you that you have USED 80% and have 21 days left in the billing cycle.

Same here. I had the 12-10. I never got to the 10.
Then all of a sudden, this month it went fast. Hmmmm.

Did you reserve windows 10? If so that might be what used up data. You should have Windows Update set to check for updates and notify if any are available. If you have Windows 8 I do not know if this setting is available, you will have to set metered connection. Otherwise updates will download when they become available.

Exede has a chart showing your usage.. and it says 80% used. and tells you when you will have more.. 21 days.. I did not have this problem until I moved.. and never had the problem with my data going so fast.. hmm.. I have to have a computer but can't afford hardly $130. a month.. Oh I forgot to mention that I do get free unlimited from 12am - 5am.. if they can give it to me unlimited then.. why not all the time.. ?  What ever equipment they use.. they can't tell me they don't have the same equipment during regular human hours instead of vampire hours.

Satellites can only handle so much data at one time. If they offer unlimited to everyone then speeds will dramatically be slower. The reason they only have unlimited from 12 am - 5 am is there is not as much internet traffic during that time. There for they can allow more usage.

They have been updating some areas to different plans, They are still limited but they offer additional usage at slower speeds (1 - 5 mbps after you reach your montly data -- these plans do not have the unlimited nightly usage though) Not sure if your area is one that has the new plans I guess there is a place you can go check somewhere (I do not have Exede) You can check what plans are in your area by going to Exede.com and put in your zipcode - the prices there might be only for new customers though.

Those of us who were Exede subscribers in the mid 2012 time frame will remember what happened when Exede was still having metering problems, and was not monitoring usage, basically we all had unlimited for a 3 month period. Once people realized that their usage was not being monitored, people were downloading and watching videos regularly, and our speeds dropped from the typical 18 to 20 Mbps during the normal hours down to 2 to 4 Mbps, especially in the prime times from 4 pm to 10 pm. Now, back then, Exede had around 300,000 subscribers. Today, Exede has in excess of 650,000 subscribers. Satellite capacity is limited, the only way to increase that is to place another satellite in orbit. That is scheduled to happen in late 2016. We can all hope that the additional capacity of ViaSat 2 will proved us all with some additional data allotments.

Sometimes I think people take advantage of a good thing and then it gets spoiled for everyone.

.. and W.. I am on an apple  computer so I do not run off of Windows.. so nothing has changed there. The only thing that has changed is the policy change and how fast my 25GB goes...I'm outraged by this.. but they know they have me.. because they are the only one's that come out here.  For there sake I hope no one else comes out here.. because they will lose a lot of business. I live out in the country but this road has a lot of houses on it.. This is just flat Price Gouging .!!

I know how it is... I live in the country also my road has quite a few houses in the last few years there were a few more built. It is not only my road that does not have cable, there are a few and the houses add up, but they still wont run cable.

There are 2 satellite internet companies, Exede and HughesNet they are both the same with limited monthly usage. Both companies plans are fairly similar for the most part.

It is very frustrating...And as they said above they can't offer unlimited/unmonitored to everyone. When they offered the 150 plan about a month after I joined...they would NOT let previous customers switch to that plan for months. Now they have changed plans again. 1-3 Mbs is a crappy speed; however, it'll still out shine a 56K modem. The biggest problem is that you can hardly find software on disk these days; and when you do, they want to connect to the internet.

The other problem to me is that you never know, where a big hunk/spike of data is coming from. So, one day you're a 10% and the next time you check you're at 80%.

But the suggestions they gave you above of changing your settings for downloads, automatic video play, etc. Also, if you're streaming go down as low as you can. I do 720 or even 480. Because a 90min video at 1080p will use about 10Mbps of your allowance. Remember also that the little disclaimer at the bottom of where you check your usage "...it may be up to 24hrs behind".

But the 'ultimate' slap in the face to me is when you submit a ticket. "We check, you have no problem now. Ticket CLOSED, resubmit a new ticket. Without ever earnestly trying to contact you or leaving open for a time before they close it. To that is like "Talk to the hand".

I worked in a software development environment for several years and important tracking statistics are "Number of trouble tickets closed" and "Number of trouble tickets still open".  Sadly, there is a lot of pressure to close trouble tickets.  In the case of excess data usage, I suspect that 99.99% of them are not really a Wildblue/ViaSat issue, so there is a tendency to push back on the customer.
