Overactive modem

The lights on the modem flash as if it is up or downloading even when the computer is turned off. Large amounts of internet gb disappear even when the computer is not in use. When I forgot that I had the modem unplugged and tried to connect on my Kindle, it said that I had an "excellent" connection (though I couldn't open any web sites.)
Are the constantly flashing lights normal? I know that I'm not being hacked. But I lost 1.5 gb in one day with very little computer time - and I don't watch videos.

Turn your wifi router off for a day or so, leave the modem on, and then see what your use is.  Then turn both off and see what happens.   I lost Gbs with wifi off, but none with modem off.  In other words, it seems that the modem is somehow recording Gbs when nothing can get to it.  Why that is, seems to be unknown to Exede.  They should look into it and tell us.  My service guy made adjustments on the modem and fixed connections to it from the antenna, and my loss stopped.  Not sure what he did, but it did not take too long.

Pearl, it's normal for the modem lights to flicker even when everything else is off.  That's just the modem maintaining its connection to the satellite and does not count towards your usage.

Rainy, foggy or other weather related events will cause the modem to flicker more often than it does in clear weather....the modem receiving software updates or reporting its status to Exede also causes the lights to flicker but again, this does not count toward your usage...

Hi Peal,  wm4bama is correct about the modem.  The data will only be used when you are connected to the internet directly from the modem or through your WiFi connection.  If you are not able to load websites, please send you account and contact information to exedelistens@viasat.com and we'll investigate. Thanks
