No internet this evening

Not getting any internet this evening. Not sure what could be wrong. Modem took a long time to connect but did connect. Everything looks good except the client side proxy is disconnected. I have unplugged and restarted three times now. Router is bypassed. I don't think I have a bad network cable since I can communicate with the modem.

Any ideas? Yes, I could call support and waste a half hour. I wont do that unless I still have no internet tomorrow.

Mine was intermittent, but the tropical storm has been dumping the rain on me. Aren’t we similar proximity?

And before anyone says it, yes the modem is sometimes “connected “ while there’s still no service.

That's possible. I am getting a connection, but the modem seems to keep trying to send and receive packets. While on, It was not online to the point I coukd browse the internet, but data was being recorded. That indicates it might be trying to do something because none of my device are connecting to the internet, through the router or bypassing the router.

Yea. I don't think weather. I thought that initially, but the weather cleared a few hours ago. My gateway is out west so I don't think weather there.

I least I have internet redundancy!

I don't think it is weather. Maybe a gateway. It is a point of failure impacting multiple beams. My beam is anime free as far as I know. And we all know Deku wouldn't be on that one!

332 is okay so, if it's a gateway, it isn't Rock Springs. Weather is possible in a few locations, mostly east of the Mississippi and worst in northern Michigan and the very north tip of Wisconsin. A little skittering off the Rockies but, nothing really bad and, mostly light weather.

Speeds are slow here tonight as well but, I'm out of priority data so, could be just me, or could be related to the problems the rest of you are having this evening.

Yeah, for me that 20 - 40 KBps is with high priority data... I feel bad for the folks who ran out.. I'm guessing they can't even get a DNS query in...

They could be shifting around a bad gateway overloading another. Time will tell.

BTW, my best outage ever was when the satellite disappeared! Yes, it happened in the late 90's. Made the news. Had to reposition the dish to the new satellite position.

Never was fully explained, but it like turned the wrong direction or something or went slightly out of orbit. I think it happened around 1998. It was a big deal.

It was prior to Wildblue/Viasat, so we can't blame Brian as I don't think he landed yet.

Happy to help :)

Oh, it's the phone line you're calling with that's the issue (e.g. your home phone). You'll need to use a different phone line. They use caller ID to try and determine if you are a customer or not and sometimes that system hiccups.

So if you're calling from a land line, I would try a cell phone or vice versa.

Thanks, I'm using a cell that's unaffiliated, but it's my only phone at the moment, but I appreciate your help, I'll call in the morning if still no connection. Thanks again. ; )

was moonshine served at the Conference of Champions????
I plead the fifth. ;-)

when I call customer service it says I have to call the wholesale company I bought my service through
Shannon, if you bought through Dish, NRTC etc, or in the past had an account through them using the same number, you will receive that message.

If your account is not through a wholesaler at this point, but you're getting the message, email us at ViasatListens@viasat.com so we can correct the issue.

Smart Matt, we can't have the masses knowing what's served at those conferences. They haven't signed the NDA, afterall. :P

Still, as I said then, it would be nice for at least champions to get a note "Network outage on some nodes/beams - no ETA." At least we'd have that much to tell other customers to just sit tight, it's probably Viasat, not on their end if rebooting the modem fails.

No point in going though more troubleshooting than a reboot if there is a network outage.

Didn't the FBI make an announcement a few days about needing to reboot routers? Maybe Viasat just didn't get the memo.

I haven't had internet since about 10:30 last night. I called their tech support number this morning and was told there is a known outage in my area and that they are working on it. Thing is...I need to be online for work at 8:30 this morning...guess I'll be using my hotspot.

It looks like the affect varies: some customers unfortunately like Veteran SatUser are experiencing a total loss of connection and others may be intermittent or not at all. Our engineers are working on it as we speak. Hopefully sooner than later this will be resolved with the day folks coming in. Sorry for the inconvenience.

As for why we don't post things like this is that when something like this happens can largely be attributed to the scope. 9.9 out of 10 times it's a few beams or a core node related outage which means it won't affect all customers and sometimes last up to 2 hours and may occur in less busier hours for our customers so a email or web notice isn't as effective to communicate. We do put a message on our IVR typically when this will happen once an outage is declared which is something we've been working on better improving. We are hoping to see this extended into further self-help tools like the app, SMS messaging system and others.

Are we still experiencing issues? I didn't notice any slow down last night before I toddled off to bed around 9 p.m. EDT, but my husband reports that this morning was pretty bad, and it's not much better this evening.

I am cooking again about 7:30pm on the 31st.  1.3Mbps.  Not bad.  Approaching the worst of primetime.

How about you Deku?  You back to downloading your anime again?  Or are you watching "Pee Wee's Big Adventure?!?!?

By 11:30pm, I still had internet.  I also now had 176 kbps.

Who would have thought.  The days of Wildblue speeds just a few hours ago would make me :)
