I see the Liberty plan drops in speed but doesn't really "cap".

Has Exede ever considered jsut offering maybe a 5GB speed plan with no data cap?

It's been requested and probably considered, but overlooks what the real problem is - fixed capacity of the satellite when launched. Even then Mbps is not a measure of speed but rather capacity. In turn the lack of capacity is what impacts speed.

In many ways, the Liberty Plans demonstrate why that does approach doesn't really work.

Many early adopters of Liberty Plans were at first ecstatic with the 1 - 5 Mbps offered during non-peak hours. Then the more severe restrictions were actual enforced for peak hours (see the fine print) - probably because those not on Liberty Plans or still having priority data available were complaining about their speeds being affected because of heavier usage by those on Liberty Pass. On my beam there was a noticeable difference once the peak usage restrictions were forced and my "speeds" have consistently been at or above the advertised 12 Mbps since early spring of this year (as long as I stay within my monthly allotment or use during the LNFZ).

The only solution for ViaSat is adding capacity with the new launches in the coming months and years.

Excede is terrible. Our Internet service is so slow and funny it's really fast after midnight. Seems for the cost we should get high speeds and more data.

We consider a lot of things when looking at new plan options, Jumanji. It's not feasible for us to offer the kind of unlimited plan you suggest, regardless of the speed (you can still download a ton of data with 5 Mbps). That said, our new satellite launching next year will give us a lot more capacity in a lot more areas to offer more robust data plans.

There has to more of a middle ground though, 10/12 GB of data is nothing for a family of 4 these days, and the fast speeds are completely pointless when it just allows you to blow through the data in less than a week and are throttled to sub 0.5MPBS speeds.

It works for me because I just use Exede during the day but I know that I am in the minority.

It works fine for me, there are two of us using the internet, no problems with the speeds, even on the pass. 10 GB is a lot of data if you don't stream stuff.
