New Viasat Internet Mobile App Feature

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let those of you with WiFi modems (so if you're using the Viasat/Exede WiFi Modem or the Viasat WiFi Gateway, that's you!) about a new feature in our mobile app that allows you to see which devices are connected to your WiFi.  It'll show you what devices have been connected over the last week, in order of data usage (from highest to lowest) as well as a very high-level breakdown showing what kind of data each device is using into video and web browsing/other. I've attached some screenshots so you can preview this new functionality.

In a previous update, we also added a feature that allows you to remotely reboot your modem, regardless of whether we detect an issue or not, as well. I know that was a feature some of you were asking for, so I figured it may be worth mentioning.

You can download the Viasat Internet mobile app on both the Google Play store (if you're running Android 4.4 or higher) and the Apple App Store (if your iPhone is running iOS 9.0 or higher).  Just a note -- the mobile app itself is only currently compatible with our Viasat WiFi Modem, Viasat WiFi Gateway, and Surfbeam 2 modem.

Wow.  That's helpful.  Wish my ISP had that.

Lizzie, is there any way this option can be disabled in future updates? I use my Exede router/modem as a bridge and have a separate router, as I’m sure many do. With this configuration, it just shows an error with a big red exclamation point. It’s not a big deal but it would be nice to have a toggle to disable it. Or maybe there is a way for this option to work in bridge mode, idk. Other than that I love the new app, it’s great for checking data consumption, rebooting the modem and checking for issues, great job,

Thanks for your consideration in advance.

The new version never loads my WiFi name or shows devices connected. The rest appears to work.

I currently have the latest version running on my iPhone X and there are time where it gets stuck on step 8 and my wi-if network name ever shows. I currently have my viasat surfbeam2+ modem in bridge mode connected to my netgear nighthawk x6 R8000 router

Same here, step 8 never completes.

No network name, but sometimes the number of devices comes up.

Deleted APP, reinstalled, same issue.

So it’s not completely broken. I actually got the app to show the number of devices connected a few times, and once, just once, it showed a bar for each device with color coding for video and data usage. Assume the length of the bar was the indicator for relative data usage per device.

That said it mostly times out. May be the connection speed lol.

My app will never load my wifi Network name with all the devices connected. I have reset the modem. I have changed the password. My data is being used faster than I have ever had it used in the past year and a half. 150 GB never had issues using all my data up. Last month was the first time ever. This month it is blowing through data. The only thing I wanted was to see what was using the Data. Customer care just explains things over and Over I am already aware of. The app not working  just adds to my frustration.

I may have replied to you in a prior thread Matthew but if you email us at Viasatlistens@viasat.com with your information that will go to the Corporate Social Care team and one of my teammates or I will review your usage for you and see if we can see what's causing the data drain.

Update came down today on my iPhone X version 1.1.3 and the network feature has completely disappeared. I'm guessing they pulled it to fix this issues with it.

Yes, app is working correctly after last update.

Future request:

Can we get a listing of data used for wired devices as well? I have two Xbox One systems, two Xbox 360 systems, Apple TV sometimes wired, a PC, a TV, and sometimes a partridge in a pear tree.

Can the bar display the actual amount of data rather than display in terms of relativity to other devices?

some way to monitor data usage between devices would be great.

I'll pass that suggestion along. I know like if you were to email me to look at your data I won't be able to see that (likely due to privacy) but this app is a new beast and it looks to be a little more personalized so that could be a potential future feature.

The app team leader just popped by to tell me some of the bugs mentioned here have been fixed. If you go to the app and update it, you should be good to go!

Hi Alex I just checked the Apple app store and I'm still running version 1.1.4 of the app which was updated 5 days ago and it's still missing the network features

This is all I get anymore. Shows my home network and number of devices connected wirelessly (not wired for some reason). No details beyond that.

Tap Refresh if it does that. Just means it didn't load all devices as fast as you tapped.

I'm still not seeing any network features. I'm running version 1.1.4. Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that I have bridge mode enabled on my Viasat wifi modem.

That is all I get too. It shows going through the Steps 1 through 8, but only displays the first three results, as shown in Billy Hodges post above, and the "Update" gizmo continues to spin indefinitely.

I am using an Android platform.
