New Unlimited Modems

I changed my plan to Unlimited Silver 25 on December 27th.  I was notified that I would need a new Modem and that it would be arriving by mail.  Since it has been 7 business days I thought I would check here and I see in another post that they have been on backorder for several weeks.  The latest response I saw was that there were no updates from the vendor as to when these would be back in stock.  The vendor works for Viasat so I assume getting an update would be as simple as calling and asking the question "when can we advise our customers that these modems will ship".  I would like to know if I should expect the modem sometime next week or sometime next month.  Thanks.

Hi Pilot10.  I apologize for any inconvenience  for the delay but the SB2+ modems are on back-order and you should receive it within 1  to 3 week.

It's because they are made in China and they take holidays Very seriously.  When the Chinese New Year comes around things really get slow.

Same here, I signed up for the upgrade the first week of December, still waiting on the modem, still no update on when they will ship.   I am now thinking about cancelling the upgrade and waiting to see if there is a better Via-Sat 2 upgrade package when it goes live.

There will be, and a brand new modem is needed. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the new viasat-2 modems arrive before these old modems do.

I received mine 3 days after ordering when the plans first came out. Plan options are frozen for now apparently. Why weren’t the plans frozen long before the great modem shortage?

Perhaps we are now,at a time when the new plans are out before the modems will the received. By that tine, people won't want these backordered modems anyhow.

Yes. I agree.

There is a hint in that posting about "location" too. Don't expect the same level of Viasat-2 performance in all locations, but at least the same level as what Viasat-1 can do at a minimum.

Sort of a let down to me. I was thinking 100Mbps coast to coast possible, with 50 Gbps plans likely. Looks like 25 Mbps plans for most, albeit probably that or slightly higher at all times. Sufficient but my socks remain tight around my ankles.

Some sort of saying, but he is on target with lowering his expectations of 100Mbps coast to coast. The link above pretty much explains the speeds t gat will be seen.

I could really care less about the speeds..I'm more concerned about having internet that isn't throttled to dial up speeds 10 days into the month

I was told to expect the new modem in 2 to 3 weeks.  It has now been 3 weeks and 2 days.  Has anyone received the new unlimited modems or are they still on backorder?

I signed up for it on December 7th or 8th, gave up waiting on the back-ordered wifi modems last week and cancelled my upgrade

Thought I would give everyone an update.  The new modem arrived January 18th and we have been very happy with the Unlimited Silver 25 plan.  We have used 125.2 GB of data so far and have 9 days left in the current billing period.  Speed has been great and we have streamed Netflix, YouTube, and done anything we wanted to do with no issues.  We are on pace to use about 180GB during our billing period so we will see if  speed is impacted after we hit the 150GB sometime this weekend.   We feel like our 4 acre compound in the country just got a little more connected to the 21st century.
