PlayOn has just added scheduled recording of streaming videos. So if you have an Exede plan with a free period, you can now set PlayOn to record only then. Be sure you have the latest version of PlayOn that includes recording capability. When you select an item from one of your channels, you'll see a tiny crescent moon icon next to the record button. Click the moon and you can set the starting and ending time for the period when you want it to record. There's also an advanced schedule option that lets you choose different periods on different days of the week.

The new version of PlayOn includes the recording function that was previously part of the separate PlayLater app. PlayOn turns your computer into a digital video recorder, and allows it
to cast recorded video to a media player or smart TV connected to your home network.

There is a fee for service, but you can choose from monthly, annual or lifetime plans. The monthly plan is about $5 per month. You can start that way to see if it works for you. If so, you can save money in the long run by purchasing an annual or lifetime license.

You can find out more on their website. Just google it.

Thanks for that information Nicholas.  I knew they had been talking about doing this, but wasn't aware that it had actually happened.  Can you set up more than one recording?  I'm still trying to get used to the new format and there are some things I liked better about the old one.  I haven't been able to figure out if there is a way to see how much of the recording has been done like you could on the old version.  I guess I'm just an old dog trying to learn new tricks.

Yes, you can, anytime you want, set up a LONG queue of programming to be downloaded to your hard drive, and can specify what times you want this recording to be done.

For example, I went to a netflix season one of a program I want to watch...clicked to record the whole season and all the episodes lined right up in the Recording queue automatically--I did my playon plus settings to indicate recording should only take place between the late night free zone hrs, and that was that....

Checked on it today, and all is working just as it should....

And to clarify for those who, like me, started out as customers of what was called "Playlater"...the new name is "Playon PLus" for the recording service by Playon.  (no more playlater--whole new format which I find even easier to use)--if you go into your old Playlater software, you will get a notice telling you to download the new version.

I just got PlayOn Plus and it did record, but I'm guessing I have to connect my internet at midnight and then wake up again to disconnect, so there is definitely no data use until then? It's a pain, but at least I can watch my Netflix now!
Let me know if I'm thinking wrong-I have had unlimited data my whole life until moving to East Texas. Huge learning.
