New Plans: Does this make any sense?

So out of curiosity, I decided to have a look at my available plans, to see if there were any Viasat-2 plans available to me. And here is what I found (there's the gold plan, but I didn't include that in the image here.) For $99, I'm getting 150GB/month, at up  12Mbps. For $95, I can get the same speed, but "Unlimited" - but it's really throttled at 60 GB - based on what I've heard about the Liberty plans, this likely means it could get slow enough during peaks to be potentially unusable.

This totally doesn't seem like a good deal to me. If it were "Unlimited" but throttled at 150 GB, with the same price-point (or even a tad higher), that would be tempting. This is not even close. And the Gold plan throttles at 100GB, but costs 50% more than the Freedom plan! *Maybe* if the Gold plan throttled at 200, I might think about it. But at 100? Or maybe if speeds were 25Mbps, and throttled down to a guaranteed speed somewhere above 8-10 Mbps (which is the effective speed I get quite often) I might also think about it.

I won't be switching.

There still aren't any Viasat-2 plans available to you. Those are Viasat-1 plans. Expect more changes during the web site housecleaning and renovation.

I just switched to the "Unlimited Silver" - WHY because we were on the Liberty 25 plan for $75 and my kids walked through 25 GB in less then 10 days.  They have been complaining about it being SLOW - but I keep telling them to STOP watching Youtube and the online gaming on their Chromebooks.  Another attraction to this plan is that I didn't have to switch out my MODEM which has been great and allows me to continue to use my existing smart WiFi router.  I was originally paying $99 for the Liberty 18 plan with no FREE ZONE.  This new plan has no FREE ZONE - but I'm not crazy about doing stuff in the wee hours of the morning.  When I switched we were at 35.7 GB on Liberty Pass.  I'm thinking that if we do exceed the 60GB it will only be noticeable during the peak hours - we'll live with it.

I switched to that plan and blew through 60GB in two weeks.  After going through my 60GB "Prioritized" data, which btw the sales folks told me was not "restricted" just "prioritized", my speeds are randomly as low as .02Mbps and .08Mbps.  Can you say dial-up?  I was a die hard supporter of Exede until now.  I'm hoping viasat-2 will help with the congestion and over subscribing.

It's just a lead in to more changes... defer any decisions. But like William Wallace don't ever let them take away your Freedom even if it involves beheading and quartering.

Do you have the old modem or do you have the new wif built in modem? It's been suggested that these plans are for the old modem.

Horrible deals. Viasat is actually raising the prices when you factor in the video resolution downgrades on the unlimited packages. Until they can offer true unlimited services without the video degrading, people need to look at other options. I would rather have have a 350GB to 500GB data cap, than have the false unlimited data with video degradation. Oh yea, for the new ViaSat people Optimized video mean downgraded video!

Sell house and move is about it for me. I’m trying to figure out what they are doing. To me it screams no new subscribers on ViaSat 1 or take a substandard plan to keep away from a new contract. Which long term may be smart. Right now it appears a little crazy.

Maybe ViaSat 2 plans will have an upside surprise. Not feeling it tonight. Why do I feel I’m about to be sorely disappointed? To high expectations? Irrational exuberance?

Given what was marketed - for months - it wasn’t irrational. Given what we’re seeing to this point - yeah, seems to be irrational. But I’m not letting go entirely of my hopes that VS-2 plans will come close to expectations - and at a reasonable price. Hope is waning, true, but not gone entirely - yet.

If it's any consolation (not much of one I know but some of the moderators were trying to tamp down expectations), a new plan is showing for Zip Code 80238 featuring the "Fastest Speeds Ever on Viasat Internet".

Drip, drip, drip...

Only surprising that Viasat employees can't get better than that... or can they?

Sat internet is a shared resource. The new plans for V1 look good to me. Have not seen any V2 plans yet. I like my country living, I can make adjustments to my internet usage to stay in the country.

Exactly how I felt seeing these plans show up on my account page. Not only is it not tempting to me on Freedom 150 but these plans don't even look good next to the Unlimited plans that were up until recently on offer. These plans give me little hope about what's to come at least on VS1.

On the bright side, I'm getting close to AT&T's Fixed Wireless solution reaching me as they been investing in my area and laying Fiber down my road so I at least have their solutions to look forward too.

I will probably stick to the Freedom 150 myself. We all have or will have 4K TV's, streaming services etc. but a stuck with a slow, unpredictable, and very expensive  data source. My other choice is Mediacom cable internet, but they are the worst provider on earth. Or, at least, close to the worst. They want $4000 dollars to run a line to my home. And they provide a service that includes routine outages that they take forever to fix. Funny, but fiber optic runs under my driveway, but nobody knows  if it will ever be used for anything. What an advanced infrastructure our great country has !!!

I'm sorry but I was told that Prioritized data was not restricted data.  Even the support guy told me I should be getting at least 5Mbps  when I'm over my prioritization.  I'm seeing .02 and .08.  Unacceptable, not even usable.

Last week on unrestricted data I was getting 500kbps. To expect a minimum of 5Mbps isn't going to happen.

Previously, I was offered Silver Unlimited and some Liberty plans.
Here is what I see today (note that the saved image is named VS1_Standard_Offerings):

It's nice that I now have the Gold option (because anything less than 720p resolution is unacceptable), but overall those new (VS1) plans don't sound too appealing.  And now I don't even have the option for Liberty plans!

Please have good V2 plans on my beam so most leave and get off my cloud so i can get some consistently good speeds, up to 25 Mbps, i'd be happy with half that.:)

And Viasat can lock the new adventuresome customers in to a two year contract, leases etc., and all, well probably not all,  will be happy.

Once again, hope they are good plans or not many will be encouraged to switch and i'll still be at 1.2 Mbps during prime time :(.

Not bad introductory prices, but anything over 100 dollars a month for what we really, really, really get is unreasonable.

I'm set just give me some consistent speed.

I have to say, I know they have to charge cause that V2 Sat was not cheap, but when the advertising says it is trying to bring the world of Satellite Internet closer to the Land world, well it is frustrating that just up the road there are people on truly unlimited internet and rocking 25mbps at full streaming for only $59 dollars before taxes.. and to get restricted internet after so much and downgraded video for $150 after three months.  Well, for the non wealthy, that is a lot to chew,,   really upsetting. but that is my two cents..

That's probably an indication that Viasat-2 Plans are available to you and they need to explain a few conditions to you (so as not teo be later ripped for non-disclosure).

FWIW, the customer agreement has now been updated as of 2/13 and most that are asking about new plans should find answers in Exhibit A although no pricing in the agreement.

https://www.exede.com/documents/master/customer-agreement.pdf

Some other legal document changes as of 2/13 can be found at at:

https://www.exede.com/legal/

It's appears all over but the shouting now or soon will be... coming soon to a region near you.

New plans and new phone books all in the same day, my heart be still.
