New customer alarmed! How can we have used 1.6 G on our account in initial use of an hour or so, only updating addresses online, and me on facebook (No Video watching on fb or any where else). Auto play on fb turned off, auto updates turned off. Only two devices, my laptop and hubby's desktop. No uploading done. We are alarmed at this amount of data usage.

Hi Sallie, I'm sorry you're alarmed about your data usage.  With the design of the internet today, it is very easy to use a lot of data. Please send your account and contact information to exedelistens@viasat.com. We'll review your account.

unplug your lan cable from the back of the modem (do not power it down) duering a fresh data reset and at late nite free zone if possible. leave it unplugged for several days or more (the longer the better) use a cellphone to login to www.myexede.net/dashboard from public wifi or cell data plan. this is the quickest way to eliminate where the problem is.

So, James are you saying just stay off internet for several days......that would certainly stop the data usage.....and defeat my purpose of getting exede.... (if that is what you're saying) :)

well yes if you wanted to see if the data useage was in fact on your end or not. several hours should be sufficent enough though. I have done this and was surprised at the data I supposedly used..it does happen. if no data was used then the next step would be your router, change passwords, ect.

Using a router with a good traffic monitoring routine is the best way to monitor data usage. I have an ASUS RT-AC1900P wireless router, it give me usage by device as well as by service. In the 5 years I have had Exede, the router and the Exede Meter have recorded data usage within less than 1%. Unless there are dish alignment issues, or equipment abnormalities, the Exede modem will not use any of your data. The modem data used for housekeeping and software updates is not counted by the modem in its reporting to the Exede server for the data meter.

If you do have data being used by the modem, contact the moderators at exedelistens@viasat.com, be sure to include your account number and a phone contact. The moderators can look at your modem with the tools they have available.

It would be nice if Ecede offered data monitoring in their routers. It would be easier to track the source of large bits being used. My cell phone provider gives better usage summaries and I have unlimited data. I have had the service for 3 months now and cannot tell where the data is going of when it was used.  If it is not resolved I will bite the bullet and cancel service.

i had the same issue for months , some thing on our internet was eating huge amounts of data in a 1 to 2 hour range , from 1 gig to 2 gigs .. i have a 10 gig plan and in about 1 week it was all used up .. so here is what i found on my router ..  the data hunger monster was my moms Laptop running windows 10 , it was constantly talking to the cloud and the internet ,  now get this , while the computer was closed and folded down .. it wasnt shut off or powered down .. it was in idle or sleep mode , but still online ... scary .. So her laptop was the issue.. also i put the router on a power strip and the internet is never on unless i use it .. other wise i kill the power to the router and the modem , to make sure nothing is online or using data ..

Yes, Icloud has to be turned off! It's a real data hog. I've turned off everything I can find, apps, updates.....Still searching. Chris has your data usage improved?

I have had Exede for 3 months. I have the 10gig data plan. It is gone in  about 12 days or less. If everyone is having the same issue with the data , maybe we are not getting what we are paying for. Instead of thinking it is us, maybe it is something on behalf of the provider. I would not recommend this service to anyone. The best internet service is not available in my area, which is Windstream. I moved, and this has been the worst experience ever trying to obtain internet service in a rural area.

I leave my computer on running off of mobile data.I also use my phone to play games all day at the same time and watch movies. I still do not use 1 Gig of data a day. However i seem to use ecede data up in less than 3 days. Something is wrong on their end.
