I have 10.3 mbps now and I use tickbox for my tv viewing.
I run the tickbox from my computer hard wired.
It cuts out alot of the time.I need to know what bandwith I have
for the whole month. If I increase my mbps to 20 mbps would that
make my viewing better or would I still run out at the end of the month?
What would be the price also

Norman, Streaming HD video uses roughly 1 GB per hour so, assuming you did no updates, no email, absolutely nothing else online at all, you could watch 20 to 21 hours of TV for 20 GB, that's about 4 or 5 hours per week.

Metered internet service, like Exede/Viasat is not ideal for streaming video. If that is your primary use of the internet, you may want to consider a lower plan for internet and, get a TV service like DirecTv for video entertainment.

Thanks for the input
We mostly watch tv channels like fox news. Do channels like that require as much usage as video's?
I can't seem to decide what to do either update my
mbps or what.l

It doesn't matter what channel you watch, if it is in HD, it will use close to the 1 GB Bev mentioned per hour. If you can reduce the resolution to SD, you can watch about 4 hours of TV per GB.

Norman, Steve is correct. HD Video is HD video regardless of it being news, a movie, a music video, a cartoon, whatever, it all uses the same amount of data. The lower the resolution the less data it uses. Like Steve said, standard resolution (480) uses about 1/4 what HD (1080) resolutions do. Of course 4K resolution uses even more but, that is not widely available YET.

Hi Norman,

Currently outside of the Freedom plan and perhaps Liberty 50, Exede isn't quite suited for cable cutting just yet if you wanted to watch Fox News online (just on a cable or satellite box is fine and won't use data) With ViaSat 2 we will have more robust plans that should certainly help the streaming crowd quite a bit.

Liberty 50 works fairly well for that IF you can use standard definition, not high resolution and, otherwise control usage carefully. You can look at my average usage and see what minimal video, except on weekends and, not totally hampering updates and, just one weekday and two weekend people pretty much doing as we please online - with UBlock running at all times of course, does. (It's 1-1.5 GB used per day on average.)

I would say not quite there yet, but with Viasat-2 I think the possibility will be there to watch what you want with enough speed and data.

Liberty 50 is one of the data plans available in many areas. It offers 50 GB of Priority data per month.

Viasat 2 is the new satellite that launched in June and, is now working it's way into it's final orbit. Early next year, if all goes well, it will begin providing internet service. In so doing it will make better plans available on both itself and on Viasat 1 as well.
