My household has 3 computers, 2 smart phones. We don't download games or movies; phones do not use the home Internet. For some odd reason, every 3 months or so, I "exceed" internet usage. It is password protected and NOBODY has my access codes. I am confused and do not receive satisfactory answers from my internet provider.

Sorry to say I experience similar situations, they always use the excuse that it's download updates from Apple for my iPhone, iPad and laptop.  I'm very very careful to not let any updates of this type occur except on a manual basis to take advantage of the 12 am - 5 am window.  But still it happens and I don't get any better responses either.
I wish there was a meter one could put on the router through the lan cable to actually register it not unlike a gas or electric meter to pinpoint when it really occurs.

Hello, I would be more than happy to review your accounts details and check your usage categories.  Once we figure out where your data is being consumed, we can find ways to help you enjoy the activities you love. Please send me an email to with your account and contact information.

It’s understandable that unknown data consumption can be extremely frustrating for those who do not realize the GB’s they are consuming daily. Sometimes things are loading in the background (FB video, Windows 8 tiles, etc.) that people are unaware of. People with larger families sometimes don't realize how additional devices and users can add to data consumption. FB, YouTube, and Netflix use a great deal of usage. Instant messaging will also apply to usage as well. Please feel free to review the following links to get better familiarize with some data consumption categories and help.
