My time to crab about data usage! :p

Odd thing going on this month...Just got the "Ruh-Roh, you're using up all of your data" email yesterday, which is out of the ordinary.  Usually I can pretty much predict when it's going to happen. (Typically when I get a new "Toy" and go a bit crazy!) ;)

However, this month has got me puzzled.  I've been using the "Networx" data monitoring thing for awhile now and it really helps to keep me on track and is typically pretty much right on par with the Exede meter.  However today, the Exede meter says I've used 13.8 gigs already, where the Networx says 5.37 gig ?!?!?  YIKES!

Can someone look at my account and see if there's something that has gone wacky?  Can I sign up for the "Free gigs" thing and get a few back?  I promise I'll behave! :p

(Networx)

Thanks!

Mr Woofus, is the Networx counting the data from all connected devices? It would have to be installed on each device, and have the settings to "Synchronize all device on the Network"? Tough to do with smartphones, iPads, and tablets, so there may be data being gobbled up by other devices  not being counted by Networx. Also, is your router secured with a good password?

I have the router locked down pretty well and considering the closest neighbor is about 3 miles away, I don't think it's outside folks sneaking in. ;)  However I did just poke around and noticed that there's a "usage meter" on the router itself.  Of course, I didn't have it turned on but do now. D'OH! ;)

I'll make a run through and double check that all devices are still set to "Only download updates when I tell ya to!" and see if I can track it down.

Thanks for pushing me in the right direction... :)

If you don't have Ad Blocker and a Flash blocker installed, you might check web sites you spend time on and see if they have changed anything. I've also had programs, including Windows, change their update settings by themselves a few times in the past.

That is good, just make sure when you check those update settings. I had been fooling  myself with the Windows update setting, I had it set to update at 3 a.m., thinking incorrectly that would download and update at 3 a.m. After I saw a big glob of data in the middle of the afternoon a couple months ago, and it turns out, after reading the Windows update setting, that it will update at the time selected, but actually downloads the update whenever Microsoft releases it. I have since selected the Manual Update setting, and then check manually either during the LNFZ or at the end of my data month if I have the data left. Window 8.x have may data hogs, setting it to local account does limit many of the cloud based features. You are on the right track, it just takes some time to find and plug all those data leaks. Good luck, and enjoy Exede.

Hello Mr. Woofus,

That is quite a difference between the data readings.  Please send me an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information.  We can go over your usage categories and get a grip on this data usage.  I will also check for your eligibility for the Great Gig Give-a-way.  Thanks.

Anyone in Exede-land get a chance to take a look yet?
