Just stopped by at account.viasat.com to check my data use and found this description of my plan:

Plan details
Freedom 150 GB - Boost 25 + WiFi
No kidding - this is the best plan we offer! It's the perfect plan for people who love to watch Netflix, YouTube, Amazon and Hulu. Get the freedom to do virtually everything you want, whenever you want. With at least 150 GB of data every month, most customers won't have to think about how much data they are using. For anyone who's been attracted to the speeds of Exede service, but had conerns about data caps, the wait is over.

Oh dear, let’s see,,,, “freedom to do virtually everything you want, whenever you want.” My, my, my, someone is not being truthful in portraying their service. Is this fraud????????????

Viasat isn’t honoring priority data anymore on Freedom and Unlimited plans.

To Viasat.listens Diana,:

Why is my plan described on your account.viasat.com as being able to do “virtually anything you want, WHENEVER YOU WANT”. This is a total lie and I believe a fraudulent description of your service. You’ve throttled me down every night to ridiculously low speed, and now on weekends, all day, I”m looking at 1.5 mbps. I think this company is criminal in it’s design to throttle older plans to suit their bottom dollar, completely gutting this plan as described on your site, which I am still paying for. I am actively discouraging neighbors from switching to viasat and will continue to do so. I am so sorry I wrote that nice review which is still posted on your site. I did not know what was coming. I have only Hughes net to switch to and they are as bad as your service. The irony is that you have given me good service for the last 8 to 10 years, I was with WildBlue when you took over. No complaints then. Now you have abused older customers and you will hear about it as you have backed us into a corner and made our online experience awful. I know you don’t care about a long term customer in a remote area,,,,, I”m okay with that. But I want my service to go back to where it was a day before I received the dreaded email as to how you compute data use and prioritize. Where is my boost 25 that I am still paying for on this plan??????

Throttled speeds is one thing. Speeds to the level of unusable is another.

As an impacted customer of this change, if I do make a change, it won't be to give Viasat a dollar more. I will either move to Hughesnet or wireless, which a number of people are doing, even some Viasat installers. But for now I am holding on to it, because Viasat wants me to get rid of it. Lol

Way to go alienating long term customers and supporters of your product BTW.

Hi Brad,  I know you are the messenger, employed by viasat.  But your reply is not convincing.  You wrote:

The Freedom plan is more or less a legacy plan no longer being offered, I haven't seen it offered in a very long time so chances are that the page you have with the plan description is the original page from the heyday when that plan was launched. Some of those pages just haven't been updated to reflect the policy change on the affected plans or to indicate those plans are no longer offered.
I know it hasn't been offered for a long time, approximately 3 years ago.  The wording above is the plan description that I currently have, a plan that I entered into in good faith.  Read what that says, "Get the freedom to do virtually everything you want, whenever you want."  You should add,,,, until viasat decides gut your plan and make it impossible to live with.  What you have done does not even remotely resemble what I signed up for.  The "options" are just a way to get more money out of us for, in my case, half the data for what I pay now.  You are deliberately  throttling me to make me so miserable that I will go to one of the "options".  And you can continue to do so under the wording of your network management policy.  And you can do this to any and all of us at will........ Yes, I accepted the terms 8 or so years ago when wild blue was bought out by viasat,,,,,that doesn't make the feeling go away that we are being victimized and punished at will by your company guide lines.  I have no other options that are reasonable.  Your options are a dead end.

We are working on changing the page to reflect the status of the plan having been informed by you what is being shown. We won't use your suggested phrasing but we will make it where it is a representation of the plan now that the policy change has been put into effect.

I can assure you we fully understand the frustration. I'd bold, underline and make that sentence red because that's something I can't stress enough.

Plans and Prices are subject to change but I personally feel the other plans won't be seeing something like this in the near future. It's less priority data but the speed/throttling isn't being implemented on those plans. If the plans are under the Unlimited options you can still do the activities you do now but after a certain point you may see slower speeds during peak hours so things like streaming may be an issue if that's your main use but that might be less of a headache than what you have now. I obviously won't tell you what you should do but I will say that might be less aggravating.

So I had been on Freedom 150 boost 25 + Wifi for quite some time. Viasat forced me out with bad service. I cancelled, sent back the equipment. NOW in my zip code, they are offering Silver unlimited 25 Mbps plan for $150 per month. All I can say is I would spend double that for jetpacks rather than fall for that crock again. Fool me once! Shame on you! Predictable!

So they singled me out as an undesirable - Will I ever trust them again. Not on your life!

VZ jetpack plan & the ATT iPad unlimited data plan I added about 6 months ago. Viasat Freedom plan was about $140. VZ is $65, iPad plan $30. I work from home. I had to have a backup. Funny, I had checked for unlimited in my beam for at least a year..

This is my speed right now on a Sunday at 5:30pm.

Totally unacceptable of course.

I have a Verizon Jetpack as backup internet myself.  Looking to move to an "unlimited" plan they have.  I don't get the best speeds with the Jetpack off my tower, but it is better than having unusable internet.

That's the difficulty with cancelling and going strictly with VZ & ATT. We have had good service in the past and we were told "once Viasat_2 gets launched". I tried TMobile, no reception here. I don't have great ATT & VZ but it is good enough with the newer devices. 4 yrs ago, I couldn't get a signal on my cell phone. We have been thrilled with the change. If one of them gets congested I just try the other one and at least they don't go out in storms. I just have two routers.

Yea.  I just ordered a second mifi device.  The cost of Verizon unlimited plus my Freedom plan is about the same if I "upgrade" to Viasat's Gold "unlimited" in my area.

Like I said, Viasat isn't getting more money from me.  If I am going to spend more money, it will be with another internet provider.  Viasat losing additional customer revenue which they so desperately seek for their quarterly reports.  What a shame.

" We have had good service in the past and we were told "once Viasat 2 gets launched."

My complaint precisely!  I was once extremely happy, then somebody "flushed" and everything went down the proverbial drain.  3+ years I have heard how Viasat 2 will "fix everything" so I held on.  About a year ago I called to complain AGAIN!  Their only "solution" to my slow internet dilemma was that  "I needed to upgrade to unlimited," in other words pay Viasat 3 times more, for more data, at the same unusable speeds ....  I DONT THINK SO!  Since then I have watched the unlimited data caps drop, and the "up to" speeds drop, and now once again unlimited is no longer offered in my area, and they are no longer accepting new subscribers ... again.

I am on the old Exede12/10 plan with the 12 to 5 free zone.  I did not get "the email" but then I dont get crap from them anymore other than "my account was charged YESTERDAY" emails.  No more 70% notices, no more data restriction notices, just my "bill" AFTER they have taken their money!  BUT since Jan 18, there has been a noticeable slow down to my internet, which seems to coincide roughly with those who did get the email?  I stuck around this long just for my free zone, but now even watching any sort of video during that results in considerable buffering.

Its sad.  Many years ago my disgust for Hughesnet brought me to Wildblue, then Exede, then Viasat, and now Viasat is forcing me back to them.  I am contemplating the switch based mainly of principal now ... Im simply sick of the bulls**t!  If my only recourse at this juncture is for Viasat to lose me as a customer ... so be it.

I am not going into it expecting anything "better," but at this point  IT CERTAINLY CANT BE ANY WORSE!

You think it can’t get any worse? Just wait until AT&T takes ownership of the residential accounts.
