Lighting struck a tree by dish, and the modem will not power on.

Hi Don,

Unfortunately this forum isn't linked to your account in any way. We will definitely send someone out but in order to do so we'll need you to call us at 855-463-9333 or email us at exedelistens@viasat.com to get that set up

Lightning hit my radio tower a few weeks ago but fortunately I suffered very little damage but I have an extensive grounding system of 40 ground rods and several hundred feet of buried copper strip. I did loose the sound output drive from one of my pc's and suffered some other antenna damage.

Has anyone else suffered lightning damage to their Exede equipment?

I have been with Wildblue since 2006 and Exede since 2012 and have never had any damage to my equipment so far. I do have a good UPS battery backup which also has a very good surge protection system for the power to the  modem.

Good to hear. I have a 100 foot tower so I need exceptional grounding.

I can see why that attracts lightning.

Yes it is sitting up there waiting. The last strike came out of nowhere. The nearest lightning was miles away and then suddenly "boom". It certainly got my attention.  At least the tower took the lightning rather than setting my house or a tree on fire.

Lightning is my biggest concern about living out in the country. I have many tall trees near my house, hopefully they will take the strike and not my house.

It normally hits trees but I have 100 feet of metal sticking up in the air so I have to take extra precautions.
