I thought the speed only went in the crapper after you used up your priority data. Not when it was reset.

You might have an equipment problem if you have poor speeds all the time, even when you still have priority data.

Just out of curiosity, what do you consider to be crap speeds?  Are we talking 10 mbps or less than 1 mbps?

What speed test are you using?  Speeds such as 1.5 mbps are normal for the Silver plan when tested on Fast.com.

Your speed should be much faster on other tests such as Testmy.net.

If you are only getting 1.5 mbps on Testmy.net, then there is definitely a problem and I would send a message to Viasatlistens@viasat.com to see if they can do anything.

If thats the case, I'm sad to say but you are just experiencing congestion.

The good news is Viasat 2 is about to go live. Once people from your area are setup on the new bird there will be increases capacity for your current install.

Hi Barry,  We are glad to hear you speed improved.
When the network is not busy, nothing will happen to your service speeds. When the network is busy, Viasat may prioritize your data behind other customers, which will result in slower speeds after you reach150 GB. Web pages and videos may respond and load more slowly than during periods of non-congestion.

Have had the Silver Unlimited Plan since the beginning of the week. Thought what I had was bad, but I can't get online without 10 to 30 second delay (if I can get online). Have used only 17G of 150G. The speed is very slow and I am very dissatisfied with this new internet. I don't know how to check my speed but I know it must be zero. Please help!!!

Thanks Jim!  It's after midnight here, so congestion isn't an issue.  speedtest.net results are as follows:  1.11 upload, 4.1 download, and 627 ping.  I'm not sure what this means.  What should I do?

Congestion can easily extend into the wee hours of the morning on weekends when folks don't have to get up in the morning and can sleep in  - even right now and for me, my speed tests are lower than normal as folks take advantage of the early morning free zone - throughout the weekend I'll see somewhat overall sluggish performance with the occassional flash of brilliance throughout the weekend. I anticpate some improvement now that it's over for a few hours as folks return to bed or awaken after their late night trysts. Sure enough some noticeable improvement with a speed test just after the end of the free zone and it appears to be headed for even more improvement - would everybody on beam 329 please go back to bed now!

Things tend to get better around 8:00 AM on Monday for those of us that stay or work at home.

Unfortunately and without further information, those numbers appear about normal for peak congested periods

Good morning Sheila

Ping is correct for a Sat system, 4.1 down and 1.11 has to be considered pretty good and will allow you to do most things. Certainly not what you signed up under Silver but it does mean that your system is prob working ok. Hopefully when V2 is operational you will see your current posted speed be on the low end of your daily internet operation.

You will hopefully get twice those speeds consistently and that will allow you to stream and all other operations without buffering and seemingly instaneous loading of web pages.

This is not what I signed up for. The internet I had was better than this, even during congestion. I am paying more and getting less. It is 8 am and the internet remains the same. Guess country people don't need rest!!!

The mbps that I had before was 10 and this is supposed to be 25. What's up with that?

The bandwidth is always specified as "up to" (specifically a maximum) that your device and plan supports - what's achievable is dependent on current network conditions. Given current susbscriber levels within your service area there simply isn't enough shared bandwidth available to meet those "up to" claims until Viasat launches service on the new satellite and shifts some demand over to it - simple supply and demand at work.

It's advertised as up to 25. I'm on Liberty 25 and get 14-17 down during the day. During primetime it will drop to 1.5-3. That is still plenty fast enough for web, email, etc. I don't stream, don't download big files, games etc. This is internet service.
