My internet seems to be "hitching" or "sticking"

Quite often I have to reload a page to get it to load, my pages stick and a kill box comes up, pictures don't load on some pages, I get DSN?? errors, and my windows start button isn't working, nor is Cortana or my search bar box. I had techs out a few weeks ago and things haven't changed and seem worse.

it is your computer, I had an older machine of mine do that under Windows 10. the Application Data handling file was somehow corrupted. (it happened in one of the early Win 10 updates on some systems with certain software combination.) Unfortunately, it can also make rebooting the machine troublesome and, makes doing a system restore impossible. The only cure is a fresh DL of Win 10 and, that might mean taking it to a shop if it's stuck set to metered and, it's not allowing you to access the settings to get it off metered.

Did you run a system file check? Just wondering what else you tried besides system restore?

My computer is not even a year old so I wouldn't think it is my computer. My internet is very slow and I have deleted cookies and restarted. I have also unplugged everything and plugged it back in according to directions. When the technicians were out they were looking over my yard with intentions of moving my dish closer to the house. They never did move it....so my guess is I still have the same problem that I have had for several months and nothing was actually done to fix it.

What kind of speeds do you get by using www.testmy.net, with your computer directly connected to the Surfbeam2 modem using an Ethernet cable?

Hello Patty I do computer repair for a living right now (moving up soon) and "nor is Cortana or my search bar box." Is your computer, I would run a system file check (things get corrupted sometimes even new ones) Cortana and "search bar box" (assuming your talking about the one one your desktop) are signs of a deeper problem not bad internet. Then a deep scan with antivirus and a maleware remover. Let me know what you find out and I help further or take it to a repair shop.

McFee has anti-malware as well depending on your setup if not
I like Malwarebytes there is a free version that does a pretty good job. Here's a link https://www.malwarebytes.org/dl-confirm/ As always when install something take your time and play attention to what you click ok to. I don't think they try to get you to install other products as well but most do. So check they will try at the end of the install for a free trail for a paid service so uncheck that.

Your welcome. What did you find out? Did you run a system file check?
and what to add Bev had a point about sometimes you have to do or just want to do a clean install, you should always download an ISO image so you have it. Those range from 3-8 gigs depending which OS's you need. So I'd find an unmetered connection some where to do that. To download the image use Microsoft Upgrade Tool run it and select install on another PC and go from there. But I don't think we need to do that yet

The full scan is still running. Right now it is at 28% complete. How long does a full scan take?? I can't click on the windows start or the Cortana "Ask me anything" search area. They are not working.

Hi Patty, If Cortana or you windows start is not working, you may need to contact Microsoft Support. This is not being caused by the internet connection as Donkey mentioned earlier.

Thank you for your help Donkey.

Yes, I am in contact with Windows about the last issue but I wasn't real sure IF Cortana wouldn't run due to my speed. I ran a new testmy.net today and my numbers are good. No issues found with McAfee scan either. I am going to hook my router back up later and try testmy.net again. Thanks Diana & Donkey for your time and knowledge!
