I have been with Viasat less than one month. I had the Gold package and burned through my 100 gigabytes in three days. Now my data speed is 0.0125...really??? What a total rip off. My recommendation, dump Viasat when Spacelink becomes available in 2020.

I thought I was using a lot at 6 GB/day.  You must stream video 10 hours a day.

I have a business account and do recommend it if you're going to use a lot of data.

I think business accounts perhaps are not throttled as bad?

I think you are right ExSat but I'm not sure as I have no one around me to compare it to. But I did go 160gb over the 75gb priority last month. My speeds are over the place once I burn through the 75gb. Typically most nights though it slows to DSL speeds. Some nights for an hour or so it goes under a megabit. During the day speeds are great. Overall though it works well for me.

Gold is just the tier of the particular plan.  It doesn't necessarily indicate any particular type of plan or speed/data amount.  There are a number of Gold plans, as in Gold 12, Gold 30, Gold 50.  Maybe more, though I'm not sure.

And, though I don't about others, the Business plans in my area don't have a classification like Bronze or Gold.

I guess the OP didn't understand what "unlimited" data means when it comes to satellite internet.

Come back and tell us what it's like during non-peak usage hours - as the terms state, after 100GB usage (your data usage threshold) you are prioritized behind others who haven't used up their threshold.

This time I have to take the side of Viasat, which I rarely will do. Until you knew what would happen why didn't you manage your data and not go over until it was close to resetting? On both Viasat and Red as they call it I made sure the first time I tested the waters on going over it was toward the end of the billing cycle. You now could have internet that won't even function for online banking and e-mail for over 3 weeks.

I will be surprised beyond all reason if Starlink (not sure what Spacelink is) is available in 2020 or even 2025.  However, I agree that the LEO architecture is vastly superior to GEO for satellite internet service.  If the price is competitive, then it will be a “no brainer” to make the switch, particularly if Starlink has decent customer service.

One of the best parts of being a Viasat customer is this forum.

My question was actual to Stephen, who seems like a deep fry turkey kind of guy :)

I thought the deep fry turkey thing was a fad from years back. I remember quite a few fires from that back in the day.

We had a smoked turkey from the local BBQ place. At $40 for a precooked turkey it just isn’t worth killing myself to fry a turkey.
