Is anyone else having this problem? This is second time it has happen to me. Everything is going fine. Downloads good. Then all of sudden can't get page. Look at modem and last 3 lights are gone. Weather on my end is fine. So shut down browser. Wait a while nothing. Unplug modem. Turn off computer. Leave modem unplugged for several minutes. Plug modem back in. All of a sudden  the second and third light flashing real fast. Then after they settle down and 4th light ethernet cable light comes on I turn computer back on. Everything okay again. But this the second time has done this and seems to be doing it once a week.

Occasionally, I have the same problem. But I just do as you do. Unplug for a couple minutes, and after reboot it is back to normal. Don't know the cause. But reading others' problems, I can live with this.

Hello HMC1940,

If a reboot doesn't fix it and it happens more frequently we might be looking at a problem with the modem itself and may need a technician. If you are still dropping out with your modem, please send us an email with your account information to exedelistens@viasat.com and we can take a look at it and see if a service call is needed.

Mine does this every other day or so, and always has.  I just thought it was normal. It almost always happens early a.m. during LNFZ, so it has had little impact on me.  Also, it always recovers on its own, I don't have to do anything.  Looking back at my records, the longest stretch I have ever gone is 9 days without a modem reboot.

In northwest GA maybe I'm just lucky but my modem never drops out unless for weather or power outage. I also have it on a filtered A/C line. which might help. All of my equipment is a little over a year and a half old.

Bsweep - Wonder how often you check your modem status for "online time".  I check mine every day.  If I didn't, I would have no idea that my modem had dropped out during the night, since I have only seen it drop out during the day maybe once or twice a year (excluding weather events).

I thought you might ask that. I just go by our phone. If it looses connection the display shows it until it's used again. I can only think of a couple of times this year when it stopped on me while I was using it. I've been extremely fortunate in comparison.

I just looked at the Modem & Tria but can't find "online time" . Were you talking about the ViaSat Modem?

OK, I found it. Running 15:40:00, thanks! We had a power outage yesterday. We get power outages all the time here. It's still going to be hard for me to tell how many dropouts are caused by Exede. My phone might still be the best indicator. Anyway, I find it to be very dependable.

I have never had any modem reboots, other than weather related. I have my modem and Exede Voice getting power from a UPS system, thus not dependent on my main power for outages up to 90 minutes.

Steve - I have my modem and router on an UPS also. I think it may not be as bad as I imagine because we have had a lot of thunder storms this summer and that is biasing my mental recall. :-)

The reason I originally got the UPS was so that I would still have phone service during the shorter power outages. My modem, router, Exede Voice box and my cordless phone is all on the UPS. It was worth the cost, with a ew other benefits, like great power filtering. For power outages greater than an hour, I have a standby generator. Us country folks need to have backup power to maintain water, heat, and refrigeration.

Yep, one reason I have everything on an UPS is so when the power goes out, I can post to my friends that I'm off line until the power comes back.  With hurricane Isabel it was 11 days. I had to travel 30 miles to find a gas station that had power where I could get gas for my generator.

Maybe it's their way to make sure no one truly capitalizes on their so called free data. If they randomly shut your connection down form time to time, things like automatic updates won't work nor will any late night gamiing or movie streaming. The support reps. might be idiots but the company itself isn't. Their sitting back collecting our money while we bitch and complain cause we all were taken to the bank.

Your modem plugged into a surge protector? Sounds like it got a power surge and might need replacing. DirecTV and Exede Internet install ground cable on their dishes however the modem is only pugged into whatever the installer finds to plug it into. A previous storm may have fried it.
