After 3+ years of service,I continue to pay an equipment lease fee. Should there be a time when you finally own the modem?

Nope.

Sometimes they do offer a purchase option, but it has to be done at signup and that option isnt always offered.

Viasat does not sell their equipment - ONLY lease

They do offer an option at sign up time to PREPAY the lease for life of account.
Also there is a $300 option to bypass credit check & contract

Still always required to return modem & TRIA

There are VAR dealers who sell primarily to businesses.
They do sell gear for several hundred dollars plus they charge a premium monthly fee as well.
You pay them not Viasat and you use them for support because VAR subscribers are not Viasat subs.

Yea. Support wasn't through Viasat. But my lease fee was less and service calls were free (the monthly fee included support).

I was a NRTC customer.

I stand corrected

I forgot about the NRTCs who once sold WildBlue then Viasat service thru their channels.
Many of them pulled the plug on the service and kept their existing subs in place but no longer sold to new customers.

The NRTCs I know of dropped satellite & formed a relationship with Wi-Power or another WISP

They didn't want the hardware back after they quit adding new satellite subs, like you said.

Yea. A lot of NRTC locations are working on fiber now too. I saw one in central Virginia just got millions awarded this week to continue their broadband expansion.

It is why Viasat is looking more internationally. The domestic market has a finite number of opportunities, and each year there are less and less opportunities, especially with Viasat-2's underperformance when it comes to the high density spot beams.

Paying a lease fee and then being expected to pay for service calls is one thing I have never liked about Viasat.

You are paying to fix their equipment. Of course you pay to fix a leased car too.

Kinda sticks in my craw too.   Dish network and DirecTV use the same model though and you pay to lease the equipment but should it fail, you pay to repair/replace.  Repair should be on the owner.  If you only lease, you're paying for them to provide the service.

Not unlike Nissan

Years ago Nissans sold in US were named Datsun
They decided to consolidate their global brand name

Viasat named their USA service Exede
In Europe it was Tooway
Seems to me there was one other brand under the Viasat umbrella

Viasat merely consolidated their brand name.

(no x and no double ee in Exede)

I prefer Goldstar electronics as an example. Everybody thought Goldstar was junk. But now they are LG. It doesnt have the same junk reputation, but it is the same company.

After the apes rise up and take over the world, the apes that take over your house and Viasat system will still pay a lease fee.
