Median 25

I'm on Silver 25-150 and used 2.4 Gb for month and here's tests over last 24 hrs.   Very unscientific crude test done over only 1 day but based on this single test while max speeds are faster the primetime speeds are very much lower.  To meet the new standards as presented in the policy change wrt median speeds of 25Mbps we should see 12 hr period where speeds exceed 25 as well as 12 hrs where service is below 25 Mbps.

Speeds greater than 25 Mbps start between 1 am and 4 am and drop below 25 Mbps by 10 am.  Assuming 2 am to 10 am for speeds > 25 Mbps gives 8 hrs - a bit short of calling the median at 25 Mbps.  Unthrottled uncongested speeds are indeed much faster that I've ever seen before as I've not seen much above 40 Mbps.  Good news.  But then the bad news because the lows are much lower.  Primetime from 6 pm to 11 pm and beyond are 2.5 Mbps and drop even lower to just over 1.  Nightowls that enjoy surfing the web from midnite to 8 am will enjoy even greater speeds but internet access during primetime for me really suffers.  This is much slower than I've seen before and am not a heavy user, typically using ~30 Gb of my 150 Gb in a month.  While touting this change as a great boon to the valuable Viasat customer, my experience says it has very little benefit for me.

Pretty much what I'm seeing as well. Used to be prime time didn't matter, now, best have other plans for prime time, internet is nearly useless unless all you want to do is read a blog or forum.

With these recent changes, one wonders if the former executives of Kruger Industrial Smoothing are now in charge!

Correct.  Median isn't average.  For a list of 23 samples arranged in descending or ascending order the median is #12(the middle), 11 samples have values less than #12 and 11 samples have values greater than #12.   So if my plan now provides median 25 Mbit, half the time it's less than 25 and half the time it's greater than 25.  I've been quite happy with my service to date but it remains to be seen how the new throttling algorithms affect me.

Brad or other moderator,   How long do I have to take advantage of the offer of no Early Termination Fee?
