We just installed your system a week ago Friday. Only went on Netflix for 1 movie. What is eating up all the data? We have to Samsung phones and 2 laptops? What is using the data so fast?

If you send an email with your account information and, request a usage review to exedelistens@viasat.com, they will be able to tell you when the data was used, for what type of activity and, what is the most likely device to have used the data.

One HD movie can use as much as 2 GB, right there. Updates, Facebook, every single webpage you load, email, uploading ANYTHING, even forums, blogs, using dictation on the phones, getting or updating apps on the phone, using the phone's web browser while connected to your home network. On demand or Watch from the beginning on a TV receiver - it all uses your data.

I read the news and my emails and my wife does here emails and texting. No movies, blogs, dictation on demand and no tv? So why did it go so fast?

Following are some examples of how your data could be getting used up. As you can see, one HD movie can easily eat up 45 to 6 Gigs.

1 hr./day web browsing = 1.8 GB/month

10 emails/day = 0.003 GB/month

2 hrs./ week social media = 0.514 GB/month

15 photos/week = 0.193 GB/month

20 file downloads/week = 0.257 GB/month

1 hr./day streaming music = 1.2 GB

15 min./week video chat = 0.103 GB

2 hrs./month std def movies = 1.5 GB

2 hrs./month hi def movies = 4.6 GB

I cannot see the details of your usage, you will need to send that email to learn the details. News typically has photos and videos embedded, those use a lot of data. Texting can include sending pictures and even short videos, that uses data too.

If you have iCloud, OneDrive or other cloud based service enabled, that uses a good bit of data too. Updates are a common cause of data usage, either for your Operating system, anti virus, or drivers. Those especially are very prone to being set to download automatically, in the background, with you only getting a notice after the fact, or, in some cases, no notice at all.

Hi Dan

One massive irritating thing that many news pages does is autoplay videos on the stories you are reading and that alone can drain data, local newscasts also have video ads on their pages. Could you send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com? we can see if anything sticks out as to why your data is draining

:) We know Brad. :) If you really wanted to sell everyone data at 10.00 per GB, residential over allotment would work the same a Business over allotment. (glad it doesn't - can you imagine the screams over that? LOL)

I am very interested in seeing what you have to offer James. I haven't seen anything in any of your posts to date that state any real documentation on your theories.

It's understandable that people are frustrated when they use up their data too soon.  It is so VERY easy to do and not have any idea how it has happened.  BUT, to accuse a company of theft because they can't get a handle on there usage is totally unacceptable.  I think accusing someone of a crime on a public forum should be grounds for a ban.  I know Exede will let this guy vent, but I for one am getting tired of these types of postings.  If there is any truth in these "claims" then they need to go thru the legal channels to prove it, not sit at a keyboard in their basement in their mother's house and blame others because they can't control their data usage.   O.K.  That was my vent.

Sounds like data being used behind the "grassy knoll" doesn't it.
