As an existing customer why can I not get the $100 a month deal for unlimited if changing to that plan? I am being told as an existing customer I have to pay $150...I am not seeing the loyalty to your existing customers.

Melissa, that discount is only for a few months, then new customers will pay 150 as well for unlimited. It is already sold out on some beams, be glad we have the opportunity to switch to it at all.

Bev is an Exede customer.

Perhaps you are confused by Bev's reference to ViaSat. Exede and Wildblue are internet services offered by ViaSat. While there still may be some existing Wildblue customers, Wildblue service is no longer offered to new customers.

New customer promotions that are not available to existing customers are common everywhere. They are a marketing tool intended to attract new customers. New customers are difficult to attract primarily due to inertia - many will simply not go even a mile down the road in search of a better deal. The promos are meant to entice them even if only for a limited time (3 months in this case) with an even better deal.

Existing customers need only be retained and there are different strategies for customer retention.

FWIW, the surest way to tell when you're losing a debate or aurgument is to rely on the old spellcheck gambit or ad hominem.

Was there any sort of debate? I simply stated that bev was either getting paid or she was mental.

She's paid for her mental abilities.  You two jackasses wouldn't get paid a penny for yours.

No the debate was over before it even started when you attempted to discredit Bev's opinion and failed to offer anything in the way of an opinion on the topic at hand. We're still waiting on one... care to weigh in with your thoughts on Marketing 101 and your perception of the fairness of new customer promos?

i agree with Melissa. why are the long time existing customers given the same pricing? This is telling the existing customers that they are not valuable customers any more

I don't see it that way, they simply don't need to use tactics like temporary discounts on us. I'd rather just see the new bill than get a lower bill for a few months, then an increase because the discount expired.

To me that discount is about as bad as "Free Turkey - with a 100.00 minimum purchase" at the grocery store. I'm not falling for that. 50.00 off for three months might get new customers but, seeing the increase in three months is going to get a lot of questions and, irritate a lot of people. I'd rather not have the discount than to deal with the added expense later. Budgeting is tight enough without having to remember pending increases, and yes I already have one coming in 9 months for Exede Voice new service.

DH will give me "What the H*** why did the bill go up?" Like most, he never remembers the expiration date of extended discounts. A lot of people will be that way when this discount expires for them.

Yes, it is customary for companies to offer promotions to new customers...but it is also customary for all of those other companies to give existing customers the same deal if they call and ask why they cannot have the 3 mos at a certain price. This was the first time I have ever been told I could not have the new customer discount. It is only 3 mos so is it really going to break the bank for them? NO, it will make me feel more valued as an existing customer. I will just cancel my plan and reconnect next month in my husbands name. But how stupid that I have to do that, this is the first time I have had to go this route with any company. And if you have to have a promotion to attract new customers then I would say retaining the old customers is pretty important. Old customers shouldn't even have to ask...a decent company would automatically give the promos to existing customers. Yes, I know none of them do that but you can rest assure if one of them started doing it, they would have the best retention rate! People that are paying you money want to feel as though they matter.

I agree, very reasonable, I now have Unlimited Silver plus Exede voice for the same I was paying for Business 50, which is 50 GB of data, no voice, a few months ago. That's a pretty good price.

To me silver is not worth $150. Freedom sold for $100. What does $50 more get you? Reduced video resolution and no throttle after 150GB. But if you never used more than 150GB in a month, you are basically paying $50 more for lower video resolution. That makes absolutely ZERO sense. Granted, there are some that might appreciate the ability to use over 150GB in a month so it maybe it makes sense to them, and paying $150+/month is no big deal. It's their money. More power on how they want to spend it!

I agree but, Freedom was never offered on my beam. We had Liberty 50 as the top plan prior to Unlimited Silver being offered so, 50 GB priority for 100/mo or 150 GB priority for 150/mo and, learn to deal with the throttled video - easy call, go Silver, use small screen or, be patient while HD downloads and, watch it later.

For me averaging between 40 and 60 GB used and, denying my family games, YouTube and Facebook time, blocking the DYV receiver from connecting so, no on demand or, pay a bit more and stop all of the data Nazi work I was doing was well worth it.

So nice to be able to say "Sure, let me enter the WiFi password for you." When the grand kids are spending the night and want to download a few apps. Just kick Guest network on , put in the password on their devices and, forget it for the evening. No more, Okay but only 200 MB or less and, only one app this month. They want to use a GB or two in one evening, have at it, I've got plenty now :) DH wants to watch orange is the new Black at home - go for it. I want to watch that SciFi show I meed yesterday, hit on demand - no problem. :)

For me it's been 17 GB rolling - Ugh the math headache of that. 25 GB hard throttled after, Wahh this slow speed sucks, bye by $$ for more data. 50 GB Liberty pass - bye bye wallet contents, need to download and, I'm not doing it at liberty pass speeds. Unlimited and stick to SD video - Yipee I can relax and, think about buying that new truck come tax return time, the internet won't be eating the truck payments. Odds are I'll never break 150 Gb in a month, even with relaxing on who does what online and, just using the internet as we please.

I used to have the rolling 17Gb per month. Then went "backwards" with Exede to 10GB per month. But the free zone made all the difference at no extra cost. I probably use 60 - 70GB per month on a 10GB plan. Can't beat that plan for the price :).

Probably will give it up though for a plan on Viasat-2, but not for a Silver "unlimited" at $150/month. I can save $100/month now towards my truck payment. Lol.

I'm sure I'll be switching plans again with VS2, but for now Silver is better for me than anything that came before. I'm really bad at staying up late and, even worse at remembering to actually use my download scheduler for anything except updates which I programmed in day one of having it LOL.

DH has never had any concept of data usage or, computers for that matter "Dear, it's not working right, come fix it." is as much as he cares to know about how to troubleshoot anything computer related. LOL

FYI...I love my Exede service, not one complaint...and I am happy to finally have an unlimited plan offered, I just do not see the harm in allowing existing customers to have the 3 mos discount to switch to the new plan.

Hopefully, it's unlimited, all you can eat and you aren't charged more as a returning customer.

The Chinese buffet here actually gave me y senior discount last night. ! trip for 6.00 but, all you can eat is 9.99 - I refused the discount. I know bad habit, me going about refusing discounts that lead to hassles for me later, how terrible of me. xD

Hey all, besides the seafood restaurant discussion, I'm not seeing much that's worth while here.  I'm going to shut down the thread.
