Confused about data usage

My data was NOT used by updates cause I download updates after midnight. Please, do not jump to wild assumptions and leap to wilder conclusions. I know how much data 10Ggigs equals and I know I am not using it...

And when bandwidth is as low as dialup, why pay for super duper over the top high speed internet.

If I am off line, if my modem is unplugged how the heck am I using data? Be good enough to explain that one to me, if possible.

The new period started and guess what.. Shows I have used half a gig in 2 days.. NOT.

Theres got to be better. All I ask is what I pay for. Nothing more or less!

Install a robust traffic monitoring application on all of your devices and/or leverage any traffic monitoring features built-in to your router and verify against the Exede meter.

If you happen to be using Windows 7, 8 or 10 Glasswire installed on all Windows devices will tell you when, what (applications) and where (what sites are being hit) data is going - see

If not using Windows, let the community know what you're using and some one familiar with your environment may make an appropriate suggestion.

1/2 GB isn't much for two days and when you unplug the modem the meter can't be updated - it's not a real time meter and is delayed a minimum of 15 minutes and sometimes longer (even up to 24 hours). When you plug it back in it's catching up on data used prior to unplugging and after the last time the statistics were retrieved from your modem.

Not jumping to any conclusions but suggesting you verify before doing the same. Doing the above will either confirm or deny your suspicions.

in addition, the eSVT tool at will provide you with a categorized breakdown of how your data is being consumed (as will contacting customer support), but to address any data usage issues you really need to know when, what and where it's going - not simply some broad categories of usage.
