Probably can just setup MAC address whitelisting on the router if it has that in the mean time.  It can only read encrypted traffic too. 
Do not use public wifi, but who uses that stuff anyway. 
Update your devices in the mean time, which will prevent this type of attack even if you are communicating with an un-patched router. 
Sounds scarier than it is.  From reading some of the information, the WPA2 encryption is not broken, but tricked into using the same encryption key over and over.  Good stuff...

Hope I can find a way to update this old Android

4.1.2. It may even be invulnerable to Krack as Is who knows? Tough being your own IT expert when that's not how you spend/want to spend your life.
