keeping an Eye on Data

Email alerts telling me that it is time to keep an eye on my data and that I have used 70% when in fact I have used 3%. Is this a scam to get us to buy more data?

Before questioning the ethics of Exede / ViaSat when you have a technical discrepancy, could you perhaps give your Surfbeam-2 modem an hour to update it's data figures and then compare that reading to the email notifying you that your data has reached 70%?  The timing of the email may be important to look at also.  I do not imply what you are saying is false. There may be a factor at play here causing the huge difference in data use reported.  If the discrepancy is persistent then an email should be sent to exedelistens@viasat.com for further investigation.  Be sure to include your account number and contact information. 

Another option would be to ignore the email and continue using the Internet as though the email was never sent and keep an eye on your usage, checking the Exede performance after about 30% more data has been used.  If your modem goes into data restriction speed prematurely, then an email to Exede is highly recommended.

Bill, when did your data reset. Many people have experienced this, because at times it takes 3 or 4 days for that email notice to get sent, and the new month may have already started by the time the email is received.

Hi Bill, If you would like us to take a look for you please send you account and contact information to exedelistens@viasat.com.  We always suggest you reboot your modem - power off and power on.  It can sometimes take up to 24 hours to show actual data usage.  We do send out emails when you hit 70% data usage.

I also have had an "increase" in usage, and am using it less the last two months, which are the two months that have shown 70% plus used 6 days after reset date. Last month I purchased 3 GB and sent an inquiry to them and 3 days later it was reset back to 100%, this month the same thing, but this month it didnt go reset to 100%, the response I got from Exede was telling me about the "free" time.  We dont surf the web during the day, we dont download music or movies, pretty much I do our Churches' website once a month, and read/delete emails, and my husband looks at airplanes for sale in the evening for maybe an hour.  I got zero help from them and have the top plan that they offer.  $170.00/mo then have to buy more GB? I bought 12 GB for $150.00 which brought it up 67 GB used.  I have been a customer for one year, and I wish I could go with someone else.

I just got an email that I've used 100% of my data and have 13 days left in my cycle.  Is there any way to see on a day to day basis when and how much data is being used?  If I could see this I might be able to track it down to what is eating my data so quickly.
