Just frustrates me to no end.. Reasons or Not

Living just off Montgomery AL,,   I am stuck on V1 and so you cannot have better 1080p plan..

Birmingham, AL,   which even the surrounding areas have complete Fiber connections,, all have Platinum 1080p plans..

So,, if I live in a place that could have fiber,,,  Viasat can just hit the road, but no, they offer those people the best they have..  Those of us in areas that need the option and really are just down the road, are not..  V1 one is for you, and make sure you LOVE IT..

I really try to be level and nice, and I know the forum people are great, and they really do work to help.. I am not trying to be that guy..

OH, oh,,  and I must not forget please enjoy our updates on V3, we are so happy..  You know what,  I am happy for you, I am, it is great that V3 is coming along..  but you have not done anything for me, nothing has been done for me.. and V2 has been providing service since March 2018.

We are coming up on a year since the launch of what was offered to be awesome greatness.. but you,, you are just not located in a good area a place that is already got great internet access,  we would rather offer the service to people that can already have and do better..

If you boot me off the forums for being frustrated, you should just shut them down..  I think is it completely fair for me to be not just frustrated, but mad, but I am trying to just be frustrated..and I do think I have a right to express it..

Hi Ricky

I can understand the frustration, I fully understand for those that live just outside of Cable's reach that would have to pay 5-6 figures to get a wire to their home (I don't miss those days working for Cable business to business sales, some of those quotes were outrageous) so I get the frustration.

Unfortunately the beams, available plans, and everything are determined by a mix of our engineers that manage the network, sales teams, marketing teams and a group of people that are quite higher up than myself. So unfortunately I can't tell you how this is all determined but I can say that plans DO change but sometimes not as quickly as we'd see like if the Platinum or Freedom appear/disappear from being available.  I feel like those on ViaSat-1 probably have a better chance of a Freedom plan showing up than someone on ViaSat-2 seeing a Platinum plan become available. I feel the latter is more scarce. Since our beams don't "black out" metro/Cable areas you could type in a metro location and probably see the Platinum plan show up but there's so few customers in the area the beam isn't overloaded and can offer the bigger plans with the free bandwidth to do so compared to outside of that area where we'll typically have more customers located and won't be able to offer the Platinum plan to avoid network issues.

Plans do change time to time, I know its frustrating to have waited so long but I would recommend a periodical check at account.viasat.com.

Some of these legacy ViaSat-1 plans do have a silver lining. If you have our Freedom Plan you have NO video quality restriction and 150GB of data which is quite higher than most of the new plans offer. Our Liberty Plans do not have the resolution restriction either but managing large downloads or utilizing a service like PlayOn (as some posted in other threads) will help allow streaming without it taking too big a bite out of the data plan.

Brad you are understanding and a great guy as always..

Since I only have Liberty 12, 25 and 50, at only 12 mpbs speeds.  I would pretty much travel and buy you and Steak and Lobster dinner if you could get me on a Freedom 150 plan..

Hell if they would just lift the 720 on my plan I would even be happier.. if I burn my data, that is my fault,, LET ME choose to lower it,,  my shows still such on streaming..  the Data traffic was never fixed for me.. just and off to cancel my contract..   or even an offer of free zone on the plan.. there are such small things that really would not over all effect the traffic.. AKA,, if I am going to burn my 100gigs in two weeks,, then what is the reason for make me only 720..   and if no one is really using it at 3 to 6 my time, why not allow a free zone..

I get data traffic,, I am in VoIP.. I understand.. it just seems some of the things imposed are pretty, looking for a nice word.. Stupid..   sorry,, missed. lol..

Can you use it on the PC, or do I have to use a mobile device?

The last comprehensive review I saw (can't remember where) indicated only encoded up to 720P (it was one of the disadvantages mentioned and it was a recent review) - so yes 720 either way currently I guess.  Recording files are essentially the same as those PlayOn Desktop produces. They're just recording remotely on your behalf without using your desktop or Viasat connection (until you download) - if it were me I'd probably just bring the laptop to the Library or McD's to download them when completed - but hey, you're unlimited right ;)

They have a mobile app that allows scheduling the recordings. That mobile app has a beta feature to schedule downloads or simply download; however, you also get an email when recordings are finished that has a link which you can use to download to the PC.

You have to buy recording credits and/or optional storage credits if you want to keep the recordings on their server for more than 7 days grace period they give you.

The PlayOn Cloud offers two resolution modes. They call it standard and high definition. Perhaps they consider 720p high res.

The PlayOn option is superior to the desktop IMHO. The desktop version is very, very quirky. And some channels record better than others.

I have been satisfied with PlayOn PC when using the Netflix channel. I have not been satisfied with PlayOn PC when using the TubiTV, National Geographic, or Smithsonian channels. I have not tried the Amazon channel.
As far as HD quality, whether PlayOn Cloud or PlayOn PC, I get resolution of 1080 wide by 720 high.

I have got Amazon to work.  Netflix works.  HBO to GO I have not got to work.  It starts to record, but then the stream hangs and starts looping.

Wow steak & Lobster AND a lambo!? I totally would take those bribes and get fired for it but alas I do not have any way to change what plans show up in your area.

We DO offer new plans somewhat regularly so I'd say stay tuned.

As for VS2 not being in the area for Ricky, I can't say I'll have any new information for you or even helpful information but if you email me at viasatlistens@viasat.com I can at least see what beam you're in and see what the status of that area is. Have you tried putting your zip code in on the page at www.viasat.com/internet? If it gives the temporarily halted activations message that's going to be a tell-tale sign that the area is currently full (most new accounts are getting on VS2 so we're not further loading VS1) but like plan changes that lifts as well and I'd suggest checking in a few months.
