Is Unlimited still coming January? I was told it was and that is the only reason I joined this company.

Although there are some improvements coming later this year, you will probably never see "unlimited" with satellite internet. Many providers who offer unlimited now are starting to impose data limits.

Hi Mechele,  I'm sorry you were given that information.  ViasSat/ Exede does not have an unlimited data plan. To find out what plans are available in your area, please go to the MyExede customer portal.

Here is information about the portal: http://help.exede.net/articles/General/Get-to-know-the-MyExede-customer-portal and http://help.exede.net/articles/General/Make-changes-to-your-Exede-Internet-service

Last month I talked to customer service because I am going to switch providers because we are using all of our data each month and buying extra data get ridiculous expensive that with the new satellite launched they will have unlimited package this spring. I would like a garanteed answer whether or not this change is coming because if not I'm leaving for another provider?!

Jeff, ViaSat-2 is scheduled to launch in the March/April timeframe of 2017. The satellite will be in service later in the year.

We have not released specifics around data plans yet; however, we expect plans with more robust data allowances, such as Freedom, will be available across the country, once ViaSat-2 comes online.

At this time I am not aware of an unlimited plan being introduced.

So why are your employees telling customers that you are? That's very misleading! I need to make a decision very soon about switching companies. Do you know when an answer will be available on what packages. Your service is costing me about $200 a month if I need to use the data I need. Other companies cost a lot less than that for unlimited plans

Would you mind telling us what other companies are offering unlimited for less money? If you are able to get an ISP offering that, then you would be wise to switch. I know that I would, but I have the choice of the two satellite internet providers.

Satellite internet is aimed at those in rural area that have no other options for their internet.

ATT for starts, even though it is select rural markets, are offering 250GB for $60 and 500GB for $100 on LTE. After testing, you can bet they'll keep rolling this out while beefing up their infrastructure. Just hopped on the 500GB plan and hopefully am done with satellite and small caps.

Hi Mechele.  I think you were referring to the "Freedom Plan" which they sometimes describe as "virtually unlimited" although it has a soft data cap of 150 GB monthly.  I too was told by an Exede customer support agent that Exede was about to launch a new satellite in January and that it would then offer Freedom Plan to everyone for $100 a month (minus 1 cent).

It's true the Viasat-2 satellite is due to launch soon, but probably not until April. Then it has to be maneuvered into its orbital slot and it has to be tested and configured before it's fully operational.  The new satellite will be more than double the capacity of the current one, which will remain in service too.  The launch will be handled by Arianespace from their facility in French Guiana, South America.

The agent I talked to was a low level employee, first level phone support. He said the info was in the company newsletter that day, and that was early December.  He was wrong about the launch being "next month." Was he right or wrong about Exede offering the Freedom Plan for $100 once the new satellite is on line?  Time will tell. Maybe one of the Exede agents on this forum can confirm or deny.

Thank you for your response it was much more detailed then the actual reply from the company itself. I joined about 6 months ago under the impression The Freedom plan would be available In January. I have another internet company I use that is literally unlimited. But on a good day it runs 4 Megs. So I wanted to try this company out and eventually pick one. If I didn't have my other internet I would hate Exede. But since I have another one I can use Exede whenever I want to watch a movie or just want things to go faster. But I don't see how anyone could possibly rely on the amount of data they offer. Even my Cable uses the internet. I think this company will end up only catering to people who live in The Ice age soon if they don't get the unlimited up.  I also know for a fact they offered to have my local Internet company contract out some of there data here at Exede as well. So far no one  wants it, they would rather settle for low speed unlimited over a fast data capped service. And in reality 12-25 megs is slow compared to Cable internet. As far as the 100 bucks for the Freedom Plan I doubt they will charge that. I am guessing its higher then 150 for sure. But we shall see. Again, thanks for the information.

I agree with you Mechele that 150 GB isn't much data. I am struggling to not go over my data and I am a current customer with the freedom plan ($120 monthly just for data!). I am bothered by the fact that some of the lesser plans have a free zone timeframe every night between 1 AM and 5AM but that is not offered with the freedom plan. The whole point of buying the largest plan they offered in my area was to discontinue satellite tv and to save some money by using only netflix and hulu. Everything is a scam. No one can ever offer simple, straight up/good service. It's frustrating and I'm ready to cancel it all. Maybe it's time to unplug and start living a more minimalist life style - cut all electronics!!!!

Nicholas is correct, our launch is looking to be more like March or April. We don't have any details on what plans/speeds/data allowances will be when the new satellite is ready for service later this year, but you can expect we'll offer a variety of plans that include those with significantly higher data allowances. We'll put out the details as soon as we know more in a few months' time!

Hi Linda

We can have our billing team look at this if you call us at 855-463-9333. Sometimes things like a expired card on file that may not have gotten an updated expiration date could be the culprit

Verizon Wireless recently introduced unlimited cellular data for $110/mo. For anybody that already has smartphone(s) with data plans from them, it pretty much renders any Exede plan >$99 as no longer competitive.

It would be great to know for sure. Like many of you I was told about the package that would be the higher data for the cheaper price. I have to rely on this internet for my college classes and it can sometimes be horrible because no matter if you turn everything off during the day, the data is pretty much gone within the first week to ten days.

But wait, you may be thinking: How “unlimited” is unlimited, anyway?   "“To ensure a quality experience for all customers,” Verizon writes, “after 22 GB of data usage on a line during any billing cycle we may prioritize [your] usage behind other customers.”  Translated, that means you will be throttled or dumped after 22GB.  No such thing as unlimited internet.  Mobile hotspot / tethering usage - "after 10 GB you’ll get 3G data speeds" Update from Verizon PR:
  • 3G Speeds are being defined as 600 Kbps.

Not to mention that cell service can be pretty slow or spotty depending on far you are from the nearest tower.

The days of satellite are numbered when 5G rolls around, and with the advent of 4G gigabit. ATT is offering select rural markets 4G LTE 250GB for $60, and 500GB for $100. You guys better step up your plans. By the way, the 22GB limit is actually a deprioritization, and not a throttle. I've been on unlimited for about a year now with ATT with a hotspot, and consistently use 200-300GB a month without a problem. Speeds never slow, and you'll only get slowed if you are near a severely congested tower. I just signed up for the 500GB plan (for ethernet), and came back to see if exede could match it. Of course I will not be restricted to 30GB for the same price.

What in the heck are you talking about!  If we could get  500 gig for $100 from a cell tower everyone here would do it.  Sounds like you think we have satellite internet because we are stupid.  Here's more on the ATT plan...."

It's only available in certain areas...

States where this can be found are Missouri, Kansas, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Western PA, and Upstate New York.

These rate plans are intended for specific customers and rural areas with sufficient network capacity. Customers attempting to use these plans in non-targeted areas with network congestion will experience slow data speeds and will likely find the experience unacceptable."

Yep.  And for a fraction of the cost AND no restricted video.  People are way, way overpaying for the Silver plan.  When you do the cost/reward analysis.  Liberty is still the best value for what you get.

Of course, that is just IMHO.
