New service and it is not what I was told it would be !!!!!

  • annoyed in a bad way !!! I am past my data of 150 gig but while I had data I was only getting around 2mbps and now after data I get 0.20 Mbps ...

You’re on the legacy satellite. You need to contact customer care and ask to be upgraded to a new service plan on ViaSat 2.

I have 11 days left this month .. my son like to use YouTube and when he is watching a video on there I try to watch Netflix and it won't load .. and that's with data . Mine won't run 2 videos at one time .

Stephen Rice is correct. The advertised, or available speed. Say Unlimited Silver for example. Video is at 1.5 Mbps roughly and, that 1.5 Mbps is shared by all devices that are streaming simultaneously. That means with two devices trying to stream, each roughly has 0.75 Mbps and, that means small scree resolution ONLY (The lowest Possible and, even then it's likely to need to buffer.)

Now if you have the Gold or Platinum plan, reducing the resolution may allow you to stream on more than one device simultaneously but, on Bronze or Silver, I wouldn't even attempt it. That''s how it works.

The top speed is for browsing and file transfers, speed are reduce for video streaming to force sites to send the lower resolution video (except on a Platinum plan.) That is intentional, it's how the plans are intended to work.

We can stream two Roku's at the same time without much problem.  It is even DVD quality on the 60 inch most of the time. Our main problem is with our wi-fi router right now. We have also had pretty good speed and stability lately as far as Viasat goes.  I assume our beam isn't as congested as some others.

I also wonder how you are going through so much data.  We run both Roku's every evening all evening and almost make it through each month, plus have one gamer who games all day every day.

Make sure your kid is doing YouTube at 360 kbps if on a small screen.  That will save a ton of data.  If he is now doing HD, it will eat it up for no real gain on a small screen.

What is your data limit....Mine is 40 and I can't get halfway through the month before speeds drop to .11

The original poster is most likely experiencing the results of exceeding the plans data usage threshold and data (de)prioritization during periods of network congestion.

A: The video quality for your service plan will apply to each device in your home.

Video stream throttling is applied on a per video basis. However, overall bandwdth is shared by all devices accessing the household's internet connection and each device's video is pulled from the household's shared bandwidth. The same would apply to streaming multiple videos on the same device simultaneously (although the audio experience might not be "optimized").

Once loads are balanced across what are now two satellites (more if you count the older satellite(s) that are still in use), things should be improving right where you are. Even some known, Wildblue-1 users are seeing better speeds (some well above the old 5 Mbps limit during off hours) as bandwidth frees up - more than likely due to subscriber attrition after more years of pain than we've endured on Viasat-1; possibly due to airline services being shifted to Viasat-2 in those areas;  at the same time Unlimited 12 Mbps plans are starting to show up in those augmented areas as well.

Going forward the only real way to determine which satellite your on would be to position yourself behind the dish and see where it's pointing (different from whre the TRIA's arm is pointing - the dish is the collector) :

Don't worry, Wildblue-1 is not in danger of clipping Viasat-1 it just seems that way just Zoom In  - only George Clooney poses that risk but I think he's still in LEO at last check ;)

This company sucks!  I had them when they were exede, then turned into viasat. Service was 'spotty', I couldn't even use my direct TV on-demand because internet was soooo slow it kept buffering. When I called to cancel - it was 2 DAYS past my billing cycle - so they charged me a whole month in advance. I turned in the equipment and didn't have service at all during December - but they charged me the whole month! When I called to complain - it was 'Too bad - so sad - pay us'. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN! I have Xfinity now and am very happy with customer service, the internet speed and the way they treat their customers.

if you called on your cell to cancel make sure to keep record of time and date you called Viasat phone number send screenshots of all proof and send it to them.

New to this, NOT IMPRESSED!! Had a terrible time trying to watch Netflix last night!!!!! Had a terrible time trying to call to get help!!!!! I better not have a terrible time calling to cancel!!!! That is what is happening as soon as I go back to my local internet provider!!!!

Oh, there's no problem with canceling - most do have problems, however, with the terms of cancellation. Good luck and see:

If not inclined to cancel after reading those and the fees for canceling, come back and tell us what specific plan your on and we (other customers) may be able to offer some advice for a better Netflix experience.

Who was your prior local provider? It may be better to simply incur the cancel fees,  go back and preserve your sanity if new to satellite internet.

Why people give up good reliable local internet for satellite is beyond me.

Oh wait. Probably saving $10/month on bundling!

Most of these ViaSat customers are pretentious as hell. I have it bc I have no other options. But the service does suck. Just let people vent. It's horrible internet at a horrible price. That's a fact. Once something else becomes available I will get it. But people are entitled to express their opinions and they should not be bullied by other ViaSat customers. Customer service should step in an try to resolve if possible.

You can't get wireless or Hughesnet?

Anybody in the continental United States should also be able to get Hughesnet. Now wireless, not everybody I understand that. But when people say Viasat is their only option, I question that.

No I cannot get wireless and Hughsnet is not any better than ViaSat. It's still satellite internet. I went with who had the better reviews as far as satellite internet. That's a compromise I made to move to the country. But people need to know you are not getting high quality internet at a good price. It's a last resort. I am more than willing to pay the termination fee once I have another option. But until then, it is what it is.
