This is great. I just wish this was more consistent. Hopefully one day it will.

Don't be miss-leading people.  You use all of your priority data and your speeds go down, as they should.  Stay within your data limit and stop miss-leading people with your insane posts.

I’m not misleading people. I’m saying the internet is $#1+ at night. When I need it the most I can’t even load a dang webpage. I don’t have insane posts either, my posts are my opinions of the internet service and that’s what a blog is for.

I get high speeds almost all the time. Thanks to the late night free zone, I rarely use up my 12 gb of priority data.

I am paying for up to 12 mbps and this morning my speed is 18 mbps. Thats way faster than what i got with AT&T DSL and my bill is $10 a month cheaper.

Then tell us exactly where your data is going, You do track it in detail don't you? How do you eliminate all of the stuff  that you don't want? How do you block HTML5 autoplay media? Better still how do you stop HTML5 media preloading? How do you block ads? How do you manage automatic updates? How do you tame sites having unruly java script?

The list goes on, but apparently you've got them all covered. Enjoy your priority data while it lasts.

I set as many updates as I can to load at 2:00 but that’s kinda it. I watch videos at 360p and try manage data the best I can.

When I said tell us exactly, I was thinking more along the lines of details like the following representing my usage for today (click to enlarge):

Stats for 1 Windows device:

Stats for all devices on my home network today:

It's only with that level of detail that you can address unwanted usage.

You think your managing your usage, but it's probably managing you. Let us know when you want to get serious about managing it but be forewarned it's a lot of work.

You do realize that your Liberty Free Zone is from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM - loading updates at 2:00 AM is obviously outside of your free zone. Only the old classic plans had a 12:00 AM  - 5:00 AM free zone and Evolution was 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

That says it all tim, you've exposed yourself and shown us that Jim16's assessment was correct from the getgo... enjoy but at least defer your update downloads until 3:00 AM, the start of your free zone but even then I suspect you're deferring the install(s) not the download(s).

That's Liberty Pass for you. Once you use all your priority data you get slowed on peak hours 5pm-12am. During the daytime mornings and early afternoons you will see better speeds. You can always buy more priority data or change plans with more data at any time

Those other rural internet have the luxury of hopping into the pickup truck, driving out to the cornfield and adding capacity. Viasat doesn't have that capability - the capacity is fixed at the time of launch and is some 22000 miles away.

Viasat has already done the dirty work. They have expensive plans that have high priority data. Now just lighten up and make it cheaper to compete with other rural internet

I'm lightened up. Cooler than ice right now.

Old Labs is correct though the only way to expand data capacity would be more satellites which we do have plans for in the next 2 years or so but for now this is the plans the company are offering based on our network management.

A lot of other rural carriers utilize towers for things like WISP and such and that's only a matter of putting something new up on the ground. With us we have to build and launch a satellite to expand.

With that said plans do rotate and change somewhat frequently so if nothing more exciting is available yet check back in a few weeks. We don't do a lot of fanfare when they do change though also because we let people stay grandfathered into plans if they don't want to change so I'd recommend the occasional peek in to see if something new is available. I unfortunately don't have an answer of when that will happen because a entirely different group of people make those calls and unless it's groundbreaking we don't know when that takes place just because it varies from beam to beam quite a bit and we have A LOT of beams.

Once again, you already have higher priority data on more expensive plans.

Liberty Pass is freaking sweet too.  I haven't been on it in a while thanks to the late night free zone, but when I used to use up my priority data, I would frequently get speeds over 5 mbps during the day.  The Liberty Pass is advertised as speeds up to 1 to 5 mbps.

PlayOn Cloud. Record HD video anytime you want. Schedule the MP4 files to download during the Free Zone when you are sleeping. Problem solved.

Delorean's aren't fancy at all.  They are garbage.  Size matters too.  Glad to hear M.E.M. has that part of life figured out.
