I desperately need to connect to my work vpn which I can do from my computer at other locations but not from home. Unfortunatly in a couple weeks we will be connecting primarily via the vdi connection and I will be dead in the water.

How has Exede monopolized anyone? Hughesnet and several cellular companies exist that also provide service to rural areas.

I'm in a rural area and have the option of AT&T Uverse DSL in addition to satelite and cellulat. At&t is garbage where I live and they want $70 a month for DSL.

I am very happy to have the option to use Exede. It is faster and more reliable than the AT&T service I had before and is cheaper.

Exede is far from being a monopoly. I am thankful to have the option of using satellite. AT&T thought they were a monopoly to me and Exede proved then wrong.

Exactly, I could choose Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, Straight Talk, Hughes net or, no home internet. Exede is simply the best choice for how and when I use the internet for the price.

I have yet to find one bill that requires internet to pay. You can call them, use automatic billing, mail a check pay via a bill pay service offered by most banks or, pay in person at the business or, an authorized payment center. Of the six people on my road only 3 of us have internet at all, the other two have Liberty 12 and only use it for emailing pictures to out of area relatives. We all have the same TV and electricity providers, we all have car payments, medical bills to pay, cell phone bills, etc... Not one of them says online is the only way to pay.

Rural people do have choices, and, it is possible to live without internet access. That might mean no working form home, no social media and, relying on snail mail but, it is an option.

Ditto on being able to pay bills by mail and phone but back in the day when I had a desk job, it wasn't uncommon for me to sit in my office during my lunch break and pay bills from my work computer.

With logic that says you can't pay bills without internet, I wonder how people found out about Exede if they can't get internet to begin with.
